Just curious.

We're going to be at DelMonico's in Las Vegas on 2/28/06 and was just curious if anybody had ever tasted any of his private label wines.

Clicking on the link made me realize I had one of the Au Bon Climats at NOLA a couple of years back for my brother-in-law's 40th B-day. I remember it being red and decent but nothing to get excited about. As you can tell, I didn't take notes.

I have not had his wines, but I know someone who has tried one of his Pinot's. I'll get in touch with her and see if she has a TN. Back when I was at Tulane, before I went into the military, my fiance and I went to Emerils in New Orleans quite often. He was really a great host and his food is just amazing. Maybe not as refined, both in presentation or flavor, than some of the other celebrity chefs around the US, but certainly worth coming back for. Please let me know what you think if you happen to try any of the wines.

PS-- this is kinda off subject, but is anyone familiar with the vineyard or the wines made by the family of another Food Network chef named Michael Chiarello. His show is called Easy Entertaining with Michael Chiarello.........one of my favorites along with Iron Chef and Good Eats. He always seems to be drinking or cooking with Trefethen, but I am almost positive that he or his family owns a winery, as well. If you know anything about it or have tried the wines, tell me what you think about them. Thanks!

David,

My memory may be off, but didn't Paul & Susie Frank from Gemstone bring some wine to our off-line at Stomp that they had bottled for Emeril?

I don't remember anyone saying anything at the time. Which offline was it? I've had dinner with them a couple of times and it never came up. Of course I can't imagine why it would have.

Jester,

Michael Chiarello's wines areavailable here.

I purchased his wines when he first started his winery. He had a Zinfandel and a Petite Sirah. I always bought them from him out his back door. The bottles looked great and he always signed them for me. He had just sold his restaurant (Tre Vigna) and I was hoping that his stuff would be the next Screaming Eagle. I figured I could make a fortune on these bottles. Unfortunately the wines were pretty bad.

But that was a long time ago. Who knows what they are like today.

Was Thomas Brown the winemaker at that time?

Is Thomas Brown currently making Chiarello wines?

Richard:

I seem to remeber that too. The offline was the Tuesday after the VC dinner at Town Hall in San Francisco.

After the VC dinner? Do you mean the Anniversary dinner? upstaires at Town Hall? Wasn't that a Saturday night?

I only spent about 10 minutes at that dinner. I arrived at the very end just in time to win the first-prize bottle. I had had dinner with Robert Parker (so to speak) that night.

This was the Tuesday night after the Town Hall dinner on Saturday night. It was at Stomp in Calistoga. Bob Bressler arranged it. I don't remeber seeing you there.

I can't remember though I think I was there. Maybe not.

We had had a BBQ on Sunday for the VC gang. I definitely remember thinking how to get everybody up to Sonoma for a 10:00am appointment at Kosta Browne. That's the last thing I can remember.

Whatchu doing down here in Northern California Pete? Slumming it? Or settling down?
