| | A few months ago, but yes, it is recent. The '98 was spectacular upon release and never shut down but the '99 is inpenetrable. I'm wondering which category this falls in to. | | I can't listen to that much Wagner. I start getting the urge to conquer Poland. -- Woody Allen | |

| | The 1998 was one of my top 10 wines of the year in 2004. It is going to be difficult imo to outdo that stuff. | | | |

| | I love the Allegrini Amarone and try to at least buy a few bottles every vintage. I'm just getting into drinking my 97s and haven't touched my (perhaps 2) 98s but I was thinking it was likely a weaker vintage then those surounding it...so perhaps you will find the others even better - or perhaps I will be pleasently surprised when i get to the 98s! The 96 was delicious BTW and I thin 97s are even better! I ordered my 2000s (2 bottles) a month or so back I think... | | | |

| Winoman,
imo, Allegrini was firing on all cylanders in 1998. The best basic Amarone I've had of theirs (tasted '95, '96, '97, '98, '99)...

| | The '98 is not a weaker vintage than those surrounding it. I think it is measurably better than the '99. And the '99 ain't no slouch. | | | Beta testing a new signature. | |

I just wanted to add:
This Italian wine was in my top 10 for the year and it is the only Italian wine that made it into my top 1000

Allegrini only makes the one Amarone.
I bought a couple 2000s, but the price keeps going up in Canada ($100 this time! )

I once saw a magazine listing a reserve Amarone. I guess that was errant...

| They make a Giovanni Allegrini Recioto in remembrance of their father, but no Riserva Amarone. There's nothing listed on their website to that effect either.
Bertani and Zenato make some of the only Riservas that I know of. I'm sure there are others, but those are the ones that come to mind immediately.

The Giovanni Allegrini Recioto is consistently a great wine and well priced, relative to its quality, imo.
The only Zenato Riserva I've had was the '95, and, honestly, I preffered the regular '95.
Obviously, while nothing is labelled "Riserva" Tomasso Bussola and Masi both also make several Amarone bottlings (although I think Masi's has a lot to do with vineyard as well as quality).
