| | Has anyone tried either of these yet? I know it's considered infanticide, but I haven't even gotten mine from the winery yet and am curious. | | | |

| I have not tried either. But, over the years, I find that the Napa is more approachable. One piece of advice, though, if you open: decant, decant, & then decant some more... Ok, 3 pieces of advice. | | | |

| I have had the 02 Napa..........someone who came in to my work bought it, had it decanted, and then came back a few hours later to drink it with us. It was decanted for about 6 hours. To tell the truth, I didn't really enjoy it. It was still very closed down with only slight aromas of coal, scorched earth, tar, cedar and a little sour edge on the finish that I couldn't really equate with any fruit flavor, but reminded me of chewing on a fresh tuber pulled from the ground ( the only reason I know this flavor is because during military SERE school, you eat pretty much anything that will go in your mouth. )
All in all, it wasn't a very memorable experience, and at this point I wouldn't fault the wine, as it is still so young, but it did leave a bad impression, so I doubt I'll be buying any Dunn anytime soon, unless I see it for a great price. Here is my actual written note from that day:
2002 Dunn Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley--1/4/2006... I did not particularly enjoy this wine. It was opened and decanted for approximately 6 hours. Seemed very empty, with nonexistant fruit and only subtle flavors of coal, scorched earth, and cedar. Tannins are grainy and not integrated at all. This was really just not what I was expecting. Possibly just a poor bottle. I may try it again sometime if the opportunity arises, but I doubt I will pay for a bottle myself. I will not give a listed score, as I admit that I may have had a tainted bottle, but if I were to score it, I couldn't give it any more than 75 points. | | | |
