| | Just curious if anyone out there has heard anything about the '04 Vintage. I am familiar with the winery but have not to date tasted the wines from this vineyard. Any information on the '04 would be appreciated ... as well as your thoughts on the past vintages. Thanks! | | | |

| Winebee, I've not had any of the Ken Wright Cellars wines but if you will try the 'search function' at the top of the page, it will most likely give you the information you need.
By the way, glad to see you finally posting. There's a lot of knowledge on this forum so don't be a stranger. | | | |

| Winebee- Sorry, but I didn't see your post earlier (being on dial-up sucks). Here's the low down on the vintage in Oregon and Ken's wines.
2004 was a very low production year. Early viticulture problems meant that most vineyards only produced half (or less) of their usual crop. This means that most of the top producers got about .75 tons per acre. In the fall there was some rain in mid-September that hurt many of the young and/or irrigated vines. The old vines sailed past this event to a great harvest. With the low yields, the wines that were produced by the top producers are excellent, and much more typical of Oregon than the 2003's.
Ken Wright is one of the top producers in the state. His wines generally taste great right out of the gate and age moderately well, at least for the first five years. If I was buying his 2004's, I would avoid the younger vineyards (more of a chance of rot). Some of the older vineyards he uses are McCrone, Carter, Canary Hill, Freedom Hill, and Guadalupe. There are others as well. I'm not sure which ones. A word of caution - Shea is a huge vineyard and some of the vines are older than others. | | Heater Allen Brewing
