Ok, VC got rid of stars for poster, so maybe it's time to get rid of stars for threads. I think they usually don't work, and it seems people don't rate threads because they are usefull or useless, but rather because they dislike a poster or a topic. So.... can we make them go away?

The thread stars are silly. Get rid of em.

Now I'm confused I thought the stars were a good thing? So, a thread with 5 stars is really, really, bad, and a thread with no star is really really good? What the heck? Just get rid of them.

Edit: Doh!! there I go not reading the entire thread again. I still don't care for the darn things and I don't use them either.

You'll note that this thread only merits 3 stars at the moment. Personally, with that rating, I'd be surprised if Revlis even reads it!!!

I do a search for "budman" every day to make sure he stays in line... other than that, I don't read anything on Vinocellar.

I like the thread ratings. Especially in the Cooking section. Usually, the threads where members post their recipes are rated. And, all I have to do is is just go down the list & check. Makes it easier for me to locate the threads with recipes.....

I see they can be useful sometimes... I was just worried that new (or old) members would refrain from posting because they would get afraid/upset by being rated. If you make a comment, I think you have to be ready to hear people disagreeing with you, but that's different from being rated. If I say something, I wouldn't understand if people told me "your post is a 1 star post", but I would be happy to hear other opinions, explaining why they disagree.

Anyway, it's not such a big deal, specially if we can't change it.

I never pay attention to the stars. They should be grapes or wine bottles anyway.

Take the stars away and grant us more Graemlins.

I'm not a fan of the stars if they can be used in a negative fashion. I initially thought the stars were assigned by the moderators, and would like to see them used that way. At least then stars will be awarded based on the merit of a thread rather than the popularity of a particular poster.
