You missed some good wine STW. :-) Hope all is well.

Tonight was again some great grub at Tre Vigne with some fantastic wine! ttepper's friend will be making an appearance on vinocellar......

My only advice to him? Drink until the cankles disappear!!

enoselsa apparently is going to be in town on 8/2 (not this weekend as previously suggested) and has not gotten any of the emails sent to him.

If anyone is interested in getting together with one of the nicest guys in the Wine Forum world, send him an email at this address:

ossikelly@aol.com

Maybe we can even get him to sign up and participate here at VinoCellar!

Cheers, y'all

stemor: I sent him an EMail to this address early this week. Guess that he did not receive it.

Anyway, I will try again. He has my EMail also. But, I have not heard from him. I thought that it was this weekend. Next weekend, I am away for the weekend. I will try to contact him again...

The VinoCellar Raw Reds Farewell dinner at TreVigne in Basking Ridge was in a cozy small private room. As always, great food and service!
Attending: Mr and Mrs RawReds, MudPuppy, Revlis,TTepper and Braden (soon to be a new vinocellar forumite- doughboy) and Mr and Mrs Jazin.
We had the 5 course tasting menu:
Lobster Ravioli
Duck Confit
Tuna or SeaBass
Filet Mignon or rack of lamb
Warm Chocolate Molten Cake w/ Vanilla Gelato
13 wines for 8 pp= one great wine-drinking time!!
White Wine Starters:
Darioush Viognier 2002- Yum
Kistler Durell Sonoma Chardonnay
(Revlis also brought a 1978 Leroy Puligny Montrachet but it was quite pungent/bad)
The REDS:the theme was European wines
Poderi Luigi Einaudi Costa Grimaldi Barolo 1998
PIRA Barolo- 1997
Emilio More Ribera del duero- 1999
Masia Carreras 1999
Lamborghini 2000
Remelluri Rioja- 1999- ***wow!
Guigal Chateneauf Du Pape 1999
Abadia Reutera Selecion Especiale 1999- ***WOW!
Cedarville Zinfandel 1999
Henrys Drive Reserve Shiraz 2001- ***WOW!!!
Gandia Fusta Nova Moscatel 2001- ** wow, wonderful stuff for $8.
All of the wines were excellent- my favorites were the Remelluri, Henrys Drive and the Abadia Reutera.
We brought both the Masia Carreras and the Abadia Reutera, bought at Garnet in NYC a few months ago before a small vinocellar wine dinner ... Ojeffso handed me 2 of each in the shop and says "here, You Are Buying These, trust me, you won't be sorry". Boy- does he know his stuff! Thanks OJeffso! Both were great-the Abadia had the consensus as one of the wines of the night.
The word of the night was "cankle"- (calf/ankle) which for some reason struck RawReds so funny he could not stop laughing and then he got us all in stitches lauging too. ...Must have been all that great wine!
TTepper and Braden stayed over at our house, so we sat outside on our deck til about 2 am drinking up most of the leftover wine w/ pistachios. Then Sat. we stopped at MudPuppy's on the way to drop them at their friend's in Paramus.
We all bought some of the Gandia from MudPuppy- what awesome stuff for $7.79/bottle. I also picked up 2 bottles of the Remelluri Rioja, a 99 Clos Mogador, 6 MP Shiraz and 6 MP Sarahs blend.
I did not take a lot of TN's so hopefully the others can add their comments on the wine.
...another great wine drinking, fun Vinocellar bash!
Cheers and best of luck to RawReds on his move to London!!

My quick comments as I remember it:

Poderi Luigi Einaudi Costa Grimaldi Barolo 1998 --
PIRA Barolo- 1997 -- Not as I expected.... was hoping for a lot better. This was overshadowed by heavier hitters and perhaps hasn't had NEARLY enough time in bottle to gain complexity.
Emilio More Ribera del duero- 1999
Masia Carreras 1999 -- This was great stuff.. very enjoyable for a super price!
Lamborghini 2000 -- This was outstanding.
Remelluri Rioja- 1999-
Guigal Chateneauf Du Pape 1999 -- Good stuff! WOTY? Oy vey.
Abadia Reutera Selecion Especiale 1999- Thick and unctuous! Love it!
Cedarville Zinfandel 1999 -- Really great Zin.. really great price.. need to have it alone.
Henrys Drive Reserve Shiraz 2001- WOTN for me... thankfully this had some air time. It was superb.
Gandia Fusta Nova Moscatel 2001- Yep yep.. :-)

I think the Italians were all a little overshadowed by the spanish wines which were a lot thicker and fruitier... so it was a hard rating night for them.

Anyhow, great night... thanks for the great write up jazin. :-)
