| I've had a few of the 1998 Cal Cabs over the past few months. Those things seem to be drinking very well right now. Personally I think it would be interesting if we compared the '98 and '99 Cal Cabs.
Bordeaux is ok too. Why are we picking 1996? The 1998 Bordeauxs are pretty good. I don't know about the '99s. I really wouldn't have any Bordeaux to contribute.
Are we setting an upper price limit? How much were the '98 and '99 Karl Lawrence?

| David, just for you... no price limit on YOUR bottles :-)
And hey, let them put bordeaux in. We know that CA wines will win everytime ;-)

| the Bordeaux vs California was a thought from all the 'Judgement at Paris' items I've seen lately. 1999 in California and 1996 in Bordeaux were both vintage the critics disagree on. Parker loves 96, Suckling less, and over the past few years he's been downgrading it even more. 1999 Laube loved and Parker and Tanzer didn't.
How about a range of $40-$125 per bottle?
One bottle per person and I don't think anyone would need to bring one of each, if you only have California or only have Bordeaux we should be able to come up with 5 of each.
Dave Tong..you're call on declaring the wines, that would make it single blind. The alternative would be to have people email me to clear them so we don't have dups. | | Paul Romero - Owner/Winemaker Stefania Wine www.stefaniawine.com

| I think for older wines we should consider the price point today rather than the release price. Karl Lawrence 98 and 99 can still be found for $50-$70.

| I'm fine with the 96/99 theme. Got a few good candidates from each side of the pond.
Dave, I've got plenty of old SCMs and I know others have some, too. Those are bottles I want to share with people who'll appreciate them. So, no problem with supply and no real need for anyone to get fleeced paying K&L used wine prices. (Oh, sorry! "Previously owned.")

| Someone should set a date and then see who/how many will be able to come. | | | |

I haven't heard any objections to June 17th; provided we can start early enough to keep Randy happy and late enough for Paul that sounds like our best bet. | | http://scmwine.blogspot.com - My wine blog. http://scmwine.wikispaces.com - your guide to the Santa Cruz Mountains and Santa Clara Valley

Hmm. I've got friends visiting from the UK who have booked to spend that weekend in Calistoga and I had been planning to join them. | | http://scmwine.blogspot.com - My wine blog. http://scmwine.wikispaces.com - your guide to the Santa Cruz Mountains and Santa Clara Valley

| let's stick with the date then. I think we're at at least 6 of 10 spaces anyway. Should I post something on winodepot to see if Grapefulldead is interested? (I missed the drama that sent him there so don't know if that will piss anyone off)
I don't think there is any reason to post on WS since the four of us are the only South Bay posters there anyway. How about ebob? | | Paul Romero - Owner/Winemaker Stefania Wine www.stefaniawine.com

| There is a thread (started by Pyang, iirc) on Wino Depot about a Peninsula restaurant offline this month. Seems like there are a few others who'd be interested. May be more on eBob.
It does seem best to get this off and running. Then maybe give Gus and Randy deference in chossing the next date.
