| 3 course menu is $49, 4 courses $59, 5 courses $69. Hors d'oevres are 30 per dozen, so 4 pieces = 1 course. Glass rental is $7.50 per person. No corkage. Factoring in tax and service (multiply by 1.3) makes it $75 for the 3 course menu or $100 for the 5 course.
231 Ellsworth has a limit of 30 people.

| Dave,
Thanks for doing all of this. It's appreciated.
If the private room at 231 only holds 30, would they seat us in the regular part of the restaurant? Or, how many do we need to take over the entire restaurant? I don't remember that it was that big to begin with. | | | TN posted on Cellartracker"

| The restaurant seats 130; to rent the whole place there's a cost of $1,000 and a guaranteed minimum of $10,000
According to the fax they sent me, the private room "is designed for groups of 15-28. With very close seating we can accommodate up to 32 guests on 4 round tables".
I forgot to mention; there is a $100 fee for renting the private room. | | http://scmwine.blogspot.com - My wine blog. http://scmwine.wikispaces.com - your guide to the Santa Cruz Mountains and Santa Clara Valley

| Questions on L&C offering"
Here's the menu. Cost is $100 per person, inclusive of all tax and gratuity, and no corkage. The private "Library" room holds 28. The semi-private "Rose Room" holds up to 50. If we have 29 people do we get the "Rose Room" at no extra charge?
Reception

| If we have 29 people do we get the "Rose Room" at no extra charge? That's my understanding. However the Rose Room is not a private room, it's just a seperate dining area. Piper Sonoma Brut Does this mean they include the cost of the Champagne in the $100? Yes. Without the Piper Sonoma it's $110 per head Soup and Salad I assume you mean "Soup OR Salad, choose one of the following": Yes. | | http://scmwine.blogspot.com - My wine blog. http://scmwine.wikispaces.com - your guide to the Santa Cruz Mountains and Santa Clara Valley

231 Ellsworth has a limit of 30 people. It would seem we shouldn't even think about this place, true?

Do you think this would be a big problem or a small problem? Piper Sonoma Brut Does this mean they include the cost of the Champagne in the $100? Yes. Without the Piper Sonoma it's $110 per head If we take double the Champagne can we get it for $90 a head? Soup and Salad I assume you mean "Soup OR Salad, choose one of the following": Yes.

Yes. $?? = $90. For salad OR pasta I think you can read salad Or pasta OR middle.
The 3 course dinner is $49. Adding $7.50 for glass rental, $3.50 for the room rental and 30% to cover tax and tip it came to around $75. My understanding is that we can pick any three courses; one soup/salad/pasta/middle, one entree, one dessert.
The 4 course dinner is $59. Glasses, room, tax and tip takes it to just under $90.
The 5 course dinner is $69. Glasses, room, tax and tip takes it to just over $100.
Now the horses doofers are $30 for 12. Which means $10 gets you four, which is the difference between three courses and four, or four and five. Does that make sense?231 Ellsworth has a limit of 30 people. It would seem we shouldn't even think about this place, true? It's not my top pick. Currently we are at 44, and I'm sure there are many people who might be interested who haven't spoken up yet, such as Jones or pyang.
I'm still bugging Parcel 104 to get their act together. I spoke to Samantha (restaurant manager) on Saturday and have been trading emails with her since; she's promised to help try and sort things out in our favour. Potato gnocchi with tomato, leeks and peas (seasonal, may vary) Crispy exotic mushroom cannelloni with garlic cream Soup du Jour You tell me... are these dishs Cab-friendly? Mushroom canneloni, maybe. I've never had a soup that went with Cab. Do we really want/need a salad (especially with Cab)? I would say not. However there may be a few non-drinkers who might be interested. I don't believe that we all have to order the same thing.Crispy duck confit, pear butter, glazed turnips and hazelnuts Smoked salmon carpaccio with fingerling potatoes, herbed creme fraiche and caper berries Pan roasted scallops and celery root puree with frisee, apple and parsley salad and truffle vinaigrette These don't seem really Cab-friendly either. No, but the duck sounds yummy --- Entrees (Vegetarian option available) Pan roasted chicken breast with mushroom risotto and madeira sauce Seared loin of lamb with creamy polenta and lavender scented lamb jus (+$5) Roasted fillet of beef with mushrooms, spinach and potato puree Fillet of Scottish salmon with pea sprout-pickled carrot salad, potato mousseline and veal jus Roasted local halibut with smashed fingerling potatoes, multi-bean salad and lemon-parsley beurre monte Spicy seared Ahi tuna with seasoned rice cake, avocado, ginger-soy emulsion and edamame relish (+$5) Would the group have a choice of any of the above at the dinner or do we have to pick three or four and then the group gets a choice of those three or four for their entree? My understanding is that we either pick two and people can choose on the day, or we pick from the list and get exact numbers in advance. | | http://scmwine.blogspot.com - My wine blog. http://scmwine.wikispaces.com - your guide to the Santa Cruz Mountains and Santa Clara Valley

Do you think this would be a big problem or a small problem? Small problem. They'd partition us off from the rest of the restaurant with screens. Whenever we ate there we always requested the Rose Room because Alison hated the wicker chairs in the main part. More often than not we had the room to ourselves. | | http://scmwine.blogspot.com - My wine blog. http://scmwine.wikispaces.com - your guide to the Santa Cruz Mountains and Santa Clara Valley

So I'm told. Last time I was there they still had a stock ticker running on the wall by the bar

Too True and I've never been to the joint.
I've been to Buck's though. Probably more deals made there than at L&C (at least ongoing).

| As a general rule of thumb, for every 15 folks, you need a bottle of wine for a sufficient pour. For 44 people, we'd need three bottles of each wine. | | | http://www.sweetandsourspectator.org | |

Speaking of wines, maybe we should start thinking about the flights. DavidN already made a few suggestions.
With some lobbying for Quilceda Creek to be added maybe we should play the regions off against each other and have a *real* smackdown. From Washington: Quilceda Creek. 100 points from Parker From Napa: Insignia. WS WOTY and flight winner last year. From Sonoma: Les Pavots. Unless someone has a better idea - maybe A. Rafanelli Terrace Select? From Santa Cruz Mountains: Monte Bello. Fresh off winning the Judgement in Paris rematch. From ... where else? Maybe Justin Isosceles from Paso Robles - Parker scored it 95? Or maybe Pride from the Napa/Sonoma border?
We should definitely continue with the Friends And family flight - Neal, Bressler, Jones and now Match - just need one more (Ladera? Switchback? Two Gringos???) to fill it out. | | http://scmwine.blogspot.com - My wine blog. http://scmwine.wikispaces.com - your guide to the Santa Cruz Mountains and Santa Clara Valley

Didn't we need three bottles last year? Seems to me we did. I remember having to open half of them.
Arranging who brought what was a real pain in the ass!
IIRC that was when GrapefullDead started the bottle count thread and then bailed. You can say anything about him here and he won't be able to read it. He told me he is not even registered. I like David (except for the damn "dito" thing). I hope he will consider coming this year.
