I'd love to bring a Quilceda and Ramey Jericho if they end up in the tasting. I do feel the Ramey belongs in this event. A very worthy wine.

I don't think Quilceda is Cali, but I would love to try...

Tanglenet, The name "Cali Cult Smackdown" actually is derived from the the location of the event rather than the origin of the wine. I can see how many are probably mislead by the name as there are usually ONLY cali wines. However this is a misconception. The founding fathers of this event left this slightly unclear and thats why I am now clearing this up on their behalf. (with their blessing of course) Now to address your concern reguarding Quilceda. I know that many people would only consider a wine a cult wine if it is a california cab or claret. This has always been the case due to quality but not a rule as set forth by the official cult wine declarer. (Robert Parker) So why does Quilceda deserve this elevated status you ask? Well lets go over the qualifing factors. 1. Very highly scoring wine over a set period of time. 2. Closed mailing list with a loooooong waiting list. 3. Poor customer service 4. High secondary market pricing. You see that Quilceda qualifies in all but 1 catagory. Also with the recent scoring by Pierre, back to back 100ptrs in 2002 and 2003, with Mr. Parkers blessing certianly added them to the list.

I hope I cleared this up for anyone who was a bit confused by my offer and suggestion to include Quilceda.

Last year they were all 2001's. This year all 2002?? I like having a set vintage since it keeps it from being a free-for-all.

Put us down for 2 please.

I stand corrected. Let's pour some!

Yes, all 2002s. So this time you're eligible ;-)
Maybe we should have a VC Members Only flight - Match, Bressler, Neal, Ladera...

As for Quilceda Creek - as organiser I say it's eligible.
Though I expect the fina list to be the subject of some debate -
who do we relegate from last season, and who gets promoted?

I'm interested as well. I thought it was agreed last year that prior participants had a right of first refusal the next year. Dave, you might want to send out some PMs to these folks.

I've shot off a quick message to everyone who came last year and a few people who expressed an interest but dropped out prior to the final date. However I've not contacted everyone, so if you know any other bay area folks who might be interested please pass the word on.

As an update, I've spoken to a very nice lady at Parcel 104 and it certainly looks like they would be happy to accomodate our needs. I explained what we wanted and told her I would want to keep the total bill under $100 per person and that includes tax, gratuity and corkage. She didn't seem to think that would be a problem. There's a $3K minimum for the room, so we'd need at least 30 people to make it work.

Oh, and one other thing. Parcel 104 is at the Santa Clara Marriott, so I should be able to work out a good deal on rooms for anyone who's interested.

I haven't contacted the other restaurants yet.

Do you mean 2, possibly 3? Or a tentative 2?
