Dude...how was the FOOOOOOD?

It was Palena, how do you think the food was? Sublime obviously. Hey, I wrote it up on your wife's board, read about it there.

We had a great time last night - it was the emptiest I've ever seen at Palena, but the food was as good as ever. I started out with a Potato, Leek and Oyster Soup that was sublime. The RC Zin was drinking absolutely deliciously. The beef carpaccio that everyone else ordered looked delicious too. We then all ordered the Hazelnut-Ricotta Ravioli in Lobster sauce... mmm mmm good with the Bonneau du Martray 1999 Corton-Charlemagne. It was a little tight in the beginning, but it opened up nicely.

The lamb for our mains were fabulous, and the Match/Wolf Cab showdown was close, but I preferred the Match by a hair. And the napoleon for dessert was excellent.

Thanks guys for a fun evening!

So how did it go?

I heard Dave was A Swirling Madman!

Hey! I resemble that remark. The Match really did improve over the course of evening (comparatively, both wines needed more time than we were able to give them). Both wines are ones that I am excited to own, but I wouldn't make it my life's mission to find more of either. I preferred the Wolf and do think that it will age better, but it wasn't by a huge margin at all. The Match had a bacony quality in the nose that I found intriguing and slightly off-putting at the same time.

Bonneau du Martray 1999 Corton-Charlemagne - great call!!

Re: Match - it seems to be a consistent wino crowd pleaser. Ours won't age because we enjoy drinking them.
