A couple of interesting conversations occurred:

We were discussing David Ramey. And, I mentioned that he worked for several producers in the past, before starting his own label. And, as a matter of fact, when David Ramey was the winemaker those producers had their best days.

But, the only producer I could remember was Matanzas Creek. Can someone help out with the other names?

Also, a conversation came up about Rock Music & the 3 greatest bands or rock persona(s) of all time. We (ojeffso, TBird, & I) pretty much agreed on Elvis, Beatles, & Stones. But, a little discussion/disagreement happened when TBird mentioned that although Elvis is, of course, a legend & right up there. But, perhaps he is over rated & given a little too much credit. I did not think so. And, ojeffso tended to agree with TBird.

All I mentioned is a few facts that he was great, very unique for the time, & yes talented. If examining all the accomplishments & facts & records (i.e. something like 40-50 #1 hits, that’s just one example), it’s hard to disagree with Elvis being #1 of all time. Also, though we talked about many great black musicians of that time, & perhaps influenced Elvis, I do not buy the fact that he “stole” the style, music, etc… from some of those great black musicians.

It was an interesting, fun, & polite conversation.

P.S.: Ahh TBird, I am glad I stopped when I did. One or two more glasses would have put me over that line (of no return). I stopped just in time, I am proud of myself.

Again, a great, fun time & crowd. And, a thank you to Brad again for having us bozos over.

I will post the wine a little later...

I believe David Ramey worked for Rudd for the first couple of years of Rudd's existence.

Elvis was just a singer. Sure he was a showman too, but unless I'm very much mistaken he didn't write his own material and was a passable guitarist. In which case I would agree that he's over-rated, or more to the point that the songwriters rarely get the credit that they deserve.

David Ramey worked for:

Simi - in the early 1980's
Matanzas Creek -1984 to 1989.
Chalk Hill-1990 to 1996 (Ithink helping out there again)
Dominus until 1998
Rudd- 1998 to 2001

I knew stemor would have something to say here. Hey, little mama!

Yes skwid, that's right Rudd. After Rudd he started Ramey. But, there are 3-4 big names before Rudd, but the names escape me now.

Yep, there we go, that's right. Jason must have posted @ the same time as my post below.

A pretty good resume. Dominus still produces great wine. But Chalk Hill, Matanzas, & Simi are in the category of "whatever happened to?!?"

At the end of the day, we all agreed that he is a great wine maker.

Brad,

Thanks for everything especially pulling out the good glassware and the fine food. It was great meeting the NJ crew and I look forward to future gatherings (where I do not drink quite as much )

I'm just back from my vacation... I only had three hours sleep after the superbowl, but it was completely worth it.

Such a pleasure to have everyone over. I'm so glad everyone had a good time. Great to see TBird again, and great meeting IW. He certainly has some good wine stories. I think I'll have to do this again next year!
