| Looks like a magnificent evening! Sorry to have missed it but Saturday I spent the day painting and re-furbishing doors...don't ask me why. TJ do you even remember drinking that dump bucket? | | | "It's better to have your enemies inside the tent pissing out, then outside the tent pissing in." -- Lyndon Johnson | |

| Thank you Dave for the hospitality that your family showed us Saturday night. It was a superb evening for all of us.
I'll post notes a little later when I have time, but all the wines were very good!

| Not hung over anymore, no. And I did NOT drink anything out of the dump bucket. I was....inspecting it.
TNs to come soon. I did type some up as we went along. But honestly, I do not think there was a dud in the bunch. Far from it. | | | www.roguefood.com -- www.cellartracker.com

| No notes yet ... Come on all - I'm especially interested in your thoughts on the '84 cabs and the '83 Latour.
Thanks, Scott | | | |

| Scott, I'll have to leave it to others to post detailed notes. I can say that all of the '84 cabs were drinking very well. My favorite, and my red WOTN, was the '84 Ridge Monte Bello. To my surprise, the Diamond Creek Gravelly Meadows was my least favorite of the '84's (it was the one I tossed to make way for the '83 Latour and the '82 Gruaud). Someone saved some for me though and it improved substantially in the glass. I'll be interested to try another bottle. It had a mid shoulder fill and some signs of seepage. Both of the other '84 cabs had mid neck fills and were in perfect condition.
For the older cabs, I ranked them, 84 Ridge, 83 Latour, 84 Phelps Backus, 82 Gruaud, 84 Diamond Creek. Not a clunker in the bunch though. For the younger cabs, I liked the '01 Bressler, followed by '02 Pride, 02 Harris Estate Teva's and the 01 Pride (this will be good, but is very closed right now).
The fascinating thing for me was that 3 of Jaimetown's wines (2002 Peter Michael Ma Belle Fiele; 2002 Peter Michael La Carriere Chardonnay, 2003 Donnhoff Obenhausen Brucke Riesling Auslese) had the potential to be the WOTN in a regular DC Cru event. The 2003 Donnhoff (a new one for me) was simply outstanding, but it was just overshadowed by the Sine Qua Non Mr. K Vin de Paille.
In the final analysis (and with some revisionist history - originally the '83 Latour was my 3rd favorite), my top three were:
1999 Sine Qua Non Mr. K Vin de Paille WOTN
1984 Ridge Monte Bello
2002 Peter Michael La Carriere
Now we just have to figure out how to do more of these things so I can work through my glut of older cabs before they turn south!
The sad part of the entire night was that we neglected to serve Mrs. TJ's cookies. They are to die for! The family talks of nothing else and they have made short work of them this week. I have carefully hidden the remains of Corkage's duck carpaccio and am eating it all myself. We did serve manage to serve it that night, and it was splendid as well.
Good times. | | | |

No worries. I think that Corkage & Mrs. and JohnnyB have tried these (so too, Jaimetown? I can't remember). Besides, they were for you and your family as a host/hostess/host-jr./hostess-jr. gift. If you felt like sharing that would have been just as cool as you not. Besides, there are more of these kinds of events to come, right? | | | www.roguefood.com -- www.cellartracker.com

| DAVE'S DINNER HOSTING THE DC CRÜ - Dave's Casa (9/24/2005)Champagne to kick things off...Followed by that soup with these great whites....- 2003 Aubert Chardonnay Ritchie Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
Cloudy and deeper gold, lemon vanilla sugar, tapioca pudding, orange essence & nice acidity keeping this nicely in balance. 93+ (93 pts.)
- 2003 Peter Michael Chardonnay Ma Belle-Fille - USA, California, Sonoma County, Knights Valley
Honeyed pineapple followed by melonballs 91 (91 pts.)
- 2003 Peter Michael Chardonnay La Carrière - USA, California, Sonoma County, Knights Valley
Quite thick, pineapple, with floral elements and light toast; mineraly, sort of like a big rock with a waterfall hitting it but without any moss and maybe even a little hazelnusstorte. 93 (93 pts.)
An intermezzo with some Pinot....Young Cabs with steak...- 2001 Pride Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon - USA, California, Napa Valley, Spring Mountain District
Quite wild with black fruits, spicebox, cotton candy, powder puff, follwed by some cherry bomb 92 (92 pts.)
- 2001 Bressler Cabernet Sauvignon - USA, California, Napa Valley, St. Helena
An outrageous nose of juniper berries and oxygen, with layers of red and black fruits and a bit of powdered dirt, this wine had excellent balance. Super. 92+ (92 pts.)
- 2002 Pride Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon - USA, California, Napa Valley, Spring Mountain District
Cigar, rich with orange zestiness, deep currant & a nice finish (one of Mrs. TJ's faves) 91+ (91 pts.)
- 2002 Harris Estate Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon VSR Very Special Reserve Treva's Vineyard - USA, California, Napa Valley
A baby, very hard to evaluate. No rating at this time, this sucker needs time to think about what it wants to show IMO. N/R
Old Cabs with lamb...- 1984 Diamond Creek Cabernet Sauvignon Gravelly Meadow - USA, California, Napa Valley, Diamond Mountain
Sour cream, Pine Sol, sage & tastes a bit like chalk -- these all sound 'bad', but these are all just things wrapped around the fruit core. It was good. 89 (89 pts.)
- 1984 Joseph Phelps Cabernet Sauvignon Backus - USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville
Chocolate bittersweet good, charred log with hunk of hatchet out of it that is then somewhat moistened as if drenched by a rainfall 92 (92 pts.)
- 1984 Ridge Monte Bello - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Cruz Mountains
A nose of Sharpie and a bit of stinky cheese, this settled down to reveal some wonderful spice and woodsy flavors. It then emerged to show loads of tobacco notes, sort of like a pipe. All of this nicely packaged around a nice velvety core of fruit. Very, very nice. 94 (94 pts.)
Even older stuff with more of the lamb...- 1983 Château Latour - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
Grilled Guinea fowl, rough-hewn leather, followed by rose hips. Extremely supple and elegant, the finish on this wine was sublime. 94+ (94 pts.)
- 1982 Château Gruaud Larose - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
Plum, oxygen, Scharffen Berger chocolate & cherry cobbler. Nice. 92+ (92 pts.)
Dessert with dessert....;-)Such a wonderful evening!! Posted from CellarTracker | | | www.roguefood.com -- www.cellartracker.com
