FYI: on the foil of the Scharffenberger bar, the expiration date is usually one year from the purchase date. So if you want to stock up, the bars are usually good for a year.

Maybe so, but I prefer to eat my chocolate young. Preferably within 3 months or less from purchase date. Chocolate goes bad more quickly than some would have you believe IMO.

TJ,

agreed. Do you store yours in the wine cellar? Or do you eat it too fast.

Eat it too fast.

Michel Cluizel Noir de Cacao 60%: g-d damn that's good sh-t. That's what I am talking about when I am talking chocolate.

When they say that the name Michel spells dark chocolate, they mean it. Everything this guy produces is great! just great!

I love the ingredients: cocoa, cane sugar, butter. That's it.

"Strong aromatic cocoa of South America, Africa, & Java are blended with art to achieve the superb balanced flavour".

Hey, you'll pay for his art/chocolate. But, it's the best! Like a great wine maker, he makes the difference (that French bastard).

I've never had Michel Cluizel chocolate before...how does it compare to Scharffenberger? Is it worth the money?

Seriously, he is considered one of the top producers. Sometimes not easy to find in the US.

All of this talk about chocolate made me open a Valor bar, 38% with almonds. Definately not Schraffenberger, doesn't have that "raspberry" flavor to it. I don't think I'm buying Valor again.

WOW, BellaDonna!!! That's a gold mine, nice find. That’s a GREAT site! And, thank you for the site. The site is bookmarked! Although, my wallet is hating you right about now.

Which do I recommend?!? - That's like asking Tony Montana which stash he prefers. Take your pick. Honestly, I was not aware that his selection of chocolate is that great. WOW!

I don't eat Milk Chocolate, but everything else is fair game as far as I am concerned. And, I see they sell Cote d’Ore, Valrhona, Dagoba – all great producers. And, some I never heard of before. But no Domori, d'Orsay, or Neuhaus. May be with time...

Interesting that this site is in NH. It must be a fairly new site. I’ve searched many a times for such a site in the US with no success. My searches always ended up in Europe & the shipping/handling was a killer.

i have found the valor 70% at $1.99 per 3.5 oz to be an incredible bargain.

For those who go thorugh Napa, Dean and Deluca has a decent selection of Chocolates including Michel Cluizel. Picked some up last weekend.

I am with TBird on this one & my taste is in parallel with what TBird posted. I think that Valor makes good stuff considering/for the price tag.

Perugina Baci Dark Chocolate with Whole & Chopped Hazelnuts: if was a gift. It’s Ok, tasty, nothing special but I enjoyed it.
