I did not find this bottle to have a prounounced banyard note, no.

We drank almost a case of these and most of the bottles did not have much "barnyard" if any. When Pegau bottles are off sometimes barnyard is the only thing you get out of them. There was some bottle variation with this vintage as I returned four of them for various non-TCA reasons.

Thanks. My inclination was that something was off about the bottle, but it was not corked. MLV and I had the same reaction. We had this when Vino Me was in town and he was less bothered by the barnyard than we were.

I have only had significant barnyard in the 98 pegau and that was only when I had it on release. It was an incredible wine- but then again I think a little stink can be a gooood thing.

1999 Domaine du Pégaü Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (5/28/2007)
WIML90,WA92,WS94

Tasted May 28, 2007 at an offline. Dark garnet color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Tight nose of black cherries, black licorice and a bit of leather. Flavors of black berries, plum and anise. Medium acidity, tannins and body. Drink now with an extended decant or hold another year or two to see if she perks up a bit. Score reflects my best guess at potential for the moment. Might improve further with more time in bottle. (90 pts.)
