| Don't know how much you got, Winetex, but would love to hear your notes. I don't remember, did you get to try at the Soiree? | | | |

| Hi QOH - I've enjoyed your trip notes from your recent travels to wine country. We are going to try a bottle very soon! I did get to taste it at the Soiree but all I wrote down was "good". Too much wine, too little time! | | | |

| Winetex, Just make sure you decant that baby for at least two hours and swirl the wine in the decanter every time you walk by. Had a bottle Thanksgiving and its took a while to open up and display its depth. | | | |

| I found four bottles of '00 Uriah resting in the showroom of a local wine shop yesterday. All by their lonesome. So I adopted them and they are nesting in my cellar. | | | |

| We opened our first bottle of this last night for a dinner party.
I decanted it for 1.5 hours. It tasted very closed with the first taste before decanting. After the decant the fruit came out nicely. There was lots of plum and almost baking-like spices (allspice or similar blend). It had a great long finish with some nice chocolate notes. This is really good wine but not a 94 pointer. It's a bit rustic in a good way. I don't plan on holding these more than 1.5 years as the acid seemed a bit low. Of course it is nice having wine that we can drink now.
It matched nicely with grilled sirloin steaks, garlic mashed potatoes and some veggies.

| Did everyone get their fill?
This wine just made a re-appearance in Atlanta.
Not the best price, though ($43.99).

| I just opend my first one of these (I got three from Stemor).
It's been in the decanter now about 30 minutes and hasn't even come close to opening up.
Not much fruit showing at all, a bit acidic. A bit more earthy than what I'm used to, definitely not a California wine.
I don't taste a 94 point wine here, maybe my perception will change after a little more time in the decanter. Certainly not bad, but I don't see all the hype. At least not right now.
***Update***
Ok, it's opened up some. Big Red chewing gum on the nose. Seems to have lost most of it's acidity and is a bit more pleasant. Still not much fruit here.
Now that I think about it, this is only my second tasting of "better" Washington wine - my other experience was at the last BWC gathering w/ a '97 Quilceda Creek CS. I ranked it near the bottom of the Cabs from that night, but in retrospect, when I consider the company it was in (fruit forward Napa cabs), my ranking may have been better had I had it on its own.
Anyway, I'm holding steady @ 91.5 pts.

I'm with you - I expected much more for a 94 point wine. But keep in mind (and I certainly don't do this) --- this is a WA wine - it will be considerably different from most CA red fruit bombs that we're accustomed to. WA wines are usually NOT fruit forward.
All -
Gary's Wine & Marketplace has the '99 Uriah for $38 or so. Not sure how it compares to the '00...

| The '99 (first vintage) is well worth that price. I'd put it up against the '00 easily. Hard to find, so I'd recommend it. This wine (both years) is not ready to drink now, but hard to resist. It needs at least 2-3 hours decanting. We cracked into another bottle last night at a big Italian food-gorge. It screams for food. I love this wine, so I am biased . Some WA wines are very fruit forward, this one is Merlot dominant, so isn't as fruit-explosive. | | | |

| Queen, I'm not sure I agree with you. I just opened a bottle last night (thanks stemor). I did decant the wine and it opened up (and warmed up) in about 30 minutes. There is not much in the way of tannins in this wine. I have now had it twice and came away with the same impression. I give it 90 pts and think the wine will not improve much with cellaring. I would drink it up in the next 3 years. I have one bottle left and it won't see 2005.

| Mine took a bit longer to open up, maybe an hour, but by the time I was done with it, I felt like it had started to fade. From the time I opened it to the time I finished it was about 3 hours.
I have to agree that I don't see much cellaring potential with this wine.
