This may not have been a smart purchase (PC has raised the prices this go around), but too hard to pass up. As it happens, Faiveley is doing the elevage for our little buying group's 2006 Hospices de Nuits purchases.

3 x 2005 Faiveley Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Combes aux Moines
3 x 2005 Faiveley Corton-Clos des Cortons
3 x 2005 Faiveley Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers
3 x 2005 Faiveley Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Issarts
1 x 2005 Faiveley Chambertin-Clos de Bèze

The following recent local purchases reflect (for the most part) my goal of stocking up on some near-term 2005 drinkers while I wait for the top end burgs to age:

2 Cathiard Vosne Romanee Les Malconsorts 1er Cru @$135

12 Bachelet Bourgogne Rouge @ $17.99

6 d'Ardhuy Cote de Nuits Villages Clos des Langes @ $23.99

6 Burguet Bourgogne Rouge Le Prince Vin @ $22.99

6 Heresztyn Bourgogne Rouge @ $16.99

6 Pavelot Savigny Les Beaune Rouge @ $19.99

I'm also waiting on some other confirmations.....

I picked up some '05 Pousse d'Or Corton Clos du Roi and some '05 Henri Boillot Volnay Fremiets.Â

I find it odd that so many big gun producers are still not surfacing.  I mean where is the Mugnier, Roumier, Fourrier, Lafarge, D'Angerville, Montille, Rion(s), Bachelet, etc?

Good question about the big guns. I also bought the Boillot Fremiets. It actually came in so I have it already. We are going to try a bottle tonight.

Blair, I've seen D'Angerville, Roumier, Fourrier and Bachelet come and go in the blink of an eye.Â

So you've got me covered, right Jaimetown?   j/k

I guess I'm surprised that the quantities are still so low - I just don't see or hear anything about more than a very small introductory amount...  I'm certain that more will show up in time, even if they are at horrible prices.

Both Daniel and Patrice Rion will be releasing in the fall.  I bought 750's, mags and 3L's of D. Rion Vosne Romanee Beaux Monts.

As an aside, the 05 Bourgogne Rouge crop thus far has been off the charts.  Dupont Tisserandot, Gerard Mugneret and Joseph Voillot all made great Bourgogne in 05.

I hear what you are saying Blair - it was not by any means a small crop, but perhaps because of the high demand, merchants are getting less allocated to them than usual. While Allen Meadows is a great service in learning Burgundy, I think he has also had quite an effect on the market.

We're being told by a local merchant that with the exception of the NSG Marechale, Mugnier has not given out allocations of his wines and will not do so until the wines are bottled some time in May.

Lafarge and Bachelet were available here but the big boys were dolled out in small quantities on an allocated basis.

Woodland Hills has the 2005 d'Angerville Volnay Taillepieds for $124.99.  Still quite a price hike from your 2002 price.  MacArthur's prices are uncompetitive across the board.

I am worried about PC's price increases.  Things sell out in a flash, but in many cases at the beginning of this campaign the restock price was only $10 higher. The 2005 Joseph Drouhin Charmes-Chambertin and Clos Vougeot come back through PC earlier this week.  I bought these in January from PC for $90 and $99.  The May price is $160 and $180!  The Charmes sold out in a flash again (much, much quicker than it sold in January).

4 x 2005 Alain Michelot Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains
1 x 2005 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Ducs (mag)
3 x 2005 La Pousse d'Or Volnay 1er Cru Caillerets Clos des Soixante Ouvrées
6 x 2005 La Pousse d'Or Corton-Clos du Roi
4 x 2005 Domaine du Vieux College Marsannay Les Longeroies

I picked up 3 bottles of the 2005 Drouhin Vero Bourgogne yesterday based on Burghound's tasting note (and 88 score). At less than $20, you can't lose with Bourgognes from solid producers in excellent years. The only problem is that BH says the drinking window begins in 2009. Who wants to sit on a pile of Bourgognes for several years?
