Don't have my notes in front of me. I'll try to post this evening, but it was not one of the standouts.

Yes, Fay was the first wine to be tasted. It did not show well; a very attractive and promising nose of black fruits yielded to a somehow lacking palate. The nose failed to deliver, which is a shame The finish turned somewhat vegetal. Perhaps it is in a funky state at the moment.

IMO SLWC haven't made a decent Fay since 1992. For that fact IMO they haven't made a decent Cab since 1992. They have been off my list since 1997.

I guess it was pretty good cabernet juice in 1972 when they won the gold medal in France.

i have a soft spot in my heart for slwc. they were one of the first wineries that opened my eyes. to this day i still fell the 99 slwc napa cab is a nice wine evern though parker didn't rate it and laube gave it 88 pts. it has always been a a solid 90-92 in my book.

I am also a Cask 23 member.I haven't had much of their older wines but I do like their current line up so far.I have had the Artemis on a few occasions and I'm beginning to think that someone pissed in the bottles sent to WS. I would give it an 88.

I don't know if I'd go back as far as '92 but they certainly have been making unimpressive wine for a while. I taste the SLV, Fay and Cask 23 every year and generally rate them between 85-89 points. If they were $40-$50/bottle, fine, but $100-$150 is laughable. I used to carry them all in my store but these days the only SLWC cab I have is Artemis.

Richard, What did you think of the '01 Cask 23? I haven't tried it myself. WS gave it 95-100 from the barrel. That means they will probably give it a 93 this year.('01 Pride comes to mind)

I cancelled my membership in Club 23. We had a private tasting at the winery last Summer and they opened anything we wanted. They also had opened a half dozen bottles the evening before our appointment and decanted thewm for us. Nothing was outstanding. As a member of Club 23, you are inundated with mediocre wine. Damn, this winery has really headed South in a hurry.

I think it's the best Cask 23 in several years, but would have liked a bit more structure and a much lower price.

I'm in the middle of the bottle, been sipping all day starting at about 1pm. This is some really great juice!!! This really is a gorgeous wine with impeccable build, tremendous flavor depth, super smooth, yet plentiful tannin, nice long finish... love this wine! Worth the price of admission. I'd say the WA95 is worthy.

For anyone who cares, The Wine Enthusiast gave it 96.

I guess Laube will have to give it 91 or so (just to be different).

while I'd say this is an ager like other insignia's... at the moment it is showing beautifully..... :-) I have 11 more and I have no idea how quickly they may or may not go. :-)

I had the second bottle of 01 Insignia I've had last night. THis wine is exceptionally smooth and will only get better. I have to say that I still like the 97 better if you compare each at the same time points after release. I would think the 01 will outlast the 97 but at this point, put the 01's away and drink the 97. I'm going to buy the 02 which I hear is a tad better than the 01.

Yeah I have a couple of these and with the exception of the one I'm bringing to the Cult Cab tasting in October, I planned to wait a while before opening it. For anyone who's interested, you can still buy this at Costco for $98.
