Randy, you are officially out of control.  Wildly, wildly out of control.  If it makes you feel better, this was me in the first 4 months of 2007.  Bold are ones dropped this year (# in 2008)

Kosta Browne - 28 (8)
Carlisle - 24
SQN - 19
Aubert - 18 (6)
Varner - 18
L'Aventure - 12
Schrader - 11
Rhys - 10
Colgin - 9
Ridge - 9 (6)
Alban - 7 (2)
Rivers-Marie - 7 (25)
Karl Lawrence - 6
Bressler - 3
Araujo - 3
Quilceda Creek - 3 (3)
Herb Lamb - 2

That's 189 bottles.

August West 28
Spottswoode 12
Levy & McClellan 3
Futo 7
Aubert 9
Rhys 17
Loring Wine Company 15
Mount Eden Vineyards 12
Neal Family 18
Radio-Coteau 12
Bressler 9
Grace Family Blank 6
Kutch 10
Araujo Estate 6

Total 258 bottles

and that's counting only mailers ...

Umh, we're only counting mailers here.  Mailers.  Nothing else.  Because if we weren't, the new and improved Dave might seem out of control (193 bottles all-in for 2008).  And that would be the farthest thing from the truth.

... and only mailers we buy from ourselves. I've offered to help Randy out with some of his Pride Reserves, and I hope he takes me up on it, but that wouldn't count ...

And I don't have a problem either!!!! :-)
Yes, mailers only we buy from ourselves, and retail purchases don't count, because those aren't the same thing.

We should open WCA... "Hi, I'm randy, and I'm a wine collector"... "Hi, I'm dave, and I'm a wine collector"...

And we should probably open it up a bit so that real people could give us a real reality check.  The views around here tend to be a bit slanted.

Ok, I have bared my soul here.  193 bottles in 2008 from all sources (mailers, internet, retail, piggybacks).  Where stand the rest of ye?

Dave, if I've learned anything after almost 16 years of marriage, is that, some things are best left unspoken.

You can call me a chicken and a coward, but I'll stand over here in the quiet and cool dark

I guess it should be bottles bought - bottles sold. right?

No, that wouldn't work for those of us in denial.  It should be #bottles bought - #bottles that you think you might sell someday if everything is good.

Using this formula, I've bought about 30 bottles this year

Hmmm, in 2008 (note only 4 months into the year):

241 bottles bought
60 bottles sold for real (this includes bottles sold at cost...)

Still pitiful!

How about $ cost of bottles bought - $ cost of bottles sold?  I am channeling Davidn in 2008.   My intent is to break even.  I'll check back when I actually sell some bottles.

Imagine the conversations in the households of wine collectors everywhere:  "Yes, I know honey the $____X____ (fill in the blank for your own situation)  I spent on ___Y____ (fill in the blank for your own situation but 2005 DRC's works well) is a lot of money but the wine will be worth ___ (fill in the blank for your situation) multiple of $X in just a year or two.
You must say this with conviction so "honey" might just believe that you will actually sell some wine this time.....

Dave,

You did pretty good on the mailers. I barely beat you in the control department. I did sell many of my mailers at cost including all of my Kosta Browne, Sea Smoke, etc...

Peay Vineyards - 30 bottles (went long on Chardonnay)
Chehalem - 12 bottles (mostly daily drinkers)
J.K. Carriere - 12 bottles (mostly daily drinkers)
Bressler - 5 bottles (sold balance at cost)
Radio-Coteau - 5 bottles (sold some at cost)
Quilceda Creek - 4 bottles (sold the remaining 20 plus magnum at cost)
Sine Qua Non - 3 bottles
Switchback Ridge - 3 magnums

Here the whole time I was using the (bottles bought) - (bottles consumed) formula to make sure I was coming out ahead...

WIML, very nice!  Juggernt, I have often thought that my real problem is that I am not consuming fast enough.

Joe, I hope your friends love you... because that QC is going to go through the roof in the aftermarket.

I think they appreciate it. I'd rather spread the love among the locals than dick around with shipping things off to auction and such. Life is too short.

Has yours ever bought it?  No, I didn't think so...not a chance here either.
