nothing like being in the distribution/retail business and not getting paid for it.

Agreed. 2001 is my last vintage in the cellar.

am i crazy for passing?

Not at all.

You *ARE* crazy for not drinking whites however

Agreed.

I went from 5% of my wines consumed being white three years ago to just over 40% being white today. There is some really good stuff out there.

Jeezz Randy,

If you're going to absorb the shipping costs I might want to buy some.

Here's another fine mess you've got me into Olie!

email from Kistler yesterday:

Quote:

We received your Fall 2006 Kistler Wine Order on 7/19/06. Your order was for:

24 bottles of 2004 Dutton Ranch Chardonnay (is sold out)
14 bottles of 2004 Kistler Vineyard Pinot Noir (is sold out)
14 bottles of 2004 Durell Vineyard Chardonnay
24 bottles of 2004 McCrea Vineyard Chardonnay

Unfortunately, when we received your order we were sold out of the 2004 Dutton Ranch Chardonnay (@ $60/bottle) and the 2004 Kistler Vineyard Russian River Valley Pinot Noir (@ $75/bottle). We are glad to be able to offer you excellent replacement wines, the 2004 Hudson Vineyard Chardonnay (@ $65/bottle) and the 2004 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (@ $60/bottle). You can replace the unavailable wines with up to:

12 bottles 2004 Hudson Chardonnay (@ $65/bottle) and/or
12 bottles 2004 McCrea Chardonnay (@ $60/bottle) and/or
12 bottles 2004 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (@ $60/bottle)

So much for the RRV Pinot. I do think it is a no-brainer though to take the Sonoma Coast Pinots they have offered even though I already have quite a few. Agree?

The 2004 Chards aren't really all that exciting so it is not a big loss that I don't get the Dutton. The question is should I take the Hudson Chard or not?

I don't think I want 12 more bottles of McCrea since I alread have 24 coming. Agree?

Waddaya think?

i think it's crazy that someone who has been on the list for quite awhile and always orders his full allocation, loses some of his allocation even though the mailer was sent in in a reasonable amount of time.

I received an email saying that they hadn't received my order (which was because I hadn't sent it in yet). There was also a "warning" that they were on the verge of selling out of the Dutton and if I didn't get the order there in the next week it would all be gone.

It was a conscious decision on my part not to write the check and send it in at that time (mostly because I didn't have the $6000 in the checking account to cover the check).

i got the warning letter too and fedexed my order in and they got on the 17th...

they were already out of the dutton by that time, but i did get a few RRV pinots... since i didn't order a boatload of McCrea i split my missing dutton over the McCrea and the SC Pinot...

Randy, Yes!

Do you want some more Sonoma Coast?

Has anyone seen a review on the Sonoma Coast Pinot? They are there on the RRV but I can't find anything on the Sonoma Coast.

I have never seen a review on the Sonoma Coast. I ordered 10 Kistler Vnyd Pinot, 2 Dutton - and got the same letter telling me it is all gone but there are replacements. I am thinking of passing - and wondering what the "penalty" might be. I ordered the 99 vintage, skipped 2000, then ordered 1 case (only) of the 01/02/03 offerings. Didn't think about getting into the distribution business. I have NEVER been offered a cuvee, and I have a lot of Kistler in my cellar. I inquired recently about "cuvee status" and received a very general answer about depends on your buying history. Am I at all close to cuvees, or do I have to start spending $6000 each release for 3 years? Unless I am truly close, this is a vintage I could pass on.

Guess what? They found some more RRV Pinot

So now I'm getting...

14 bottles of 2004 Kistler Vineyard Pinot Noir
12 bottles 2004 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
14 bottles of 2004 Durell Vineyard Chardonnay
24 bottles of 2004 McCrea Vineyard Chardonnay

They forced me to take all that extra Pinot
