| The Lagunitas IPA is like Anchor Liberty Ale on 11 (Spinal Tap reference). It is really really hoppy (it's good though). It is no suprise that the higher alcohol beers rate a bit higher with beerheads. Lots of hops also seems to be a recurring theme in highly rated beers by cognicsetti. So for someone just starting out tasting different styles of beer the taste of these "highly rated" beers will be quite a shock. | | | |

Yep, that is my style. I drink PAs and IPAs in the summer. I am sure there are really good beers that have lower hop content, it's just not my taste. | | | |

| I'm not saying that hops are bad (in fact I like them, Anchor Liberty Ale is the Best Beer in America IMHO) just that folks just starting out trying these craft beers will be in for a rude awakening. | | | |

| I feel lousy for saying this, but I was up at Mrs. TJ Momma's and after doing a bunch of stuff in her yard, and then setting up a grill and grilling and then playing a pickup game of some kind of nerf baseball with the nieces, several Coronas that Mrs. TJ Bro brought tasted REALLY GOOD to me today. Widmere Hefeweisen is mass produced too, but that's what you'll find in my hand on a hot day while tending the grill. The "serious" beers and ales I like are not really thirst quenching at 7 to 11% alc. | | | |

| Do you get the cloudy Hefe's? If so it is probably the yeast that you are tasting. If you can find it try the Anchor Summer beer which is a filtered wheat beer. It is very clean tasting unlike most wheat beers in the USA.
Btw, there are times when a beer like Corona is perfectly acceptible. When it is really hot out a dark/heavy ale isn't the right thing. Just as a 17% zin probably isn't what you are looking to drink. | | | |

| Widmere is slightly cloudy too, but is crisp and refreshing without forsaking body. It really has very little in common with a real German Hefeweisen. Most of those have a "clovey" taste to them which I don't care for.
More often than not, I'll finish an evening of heavy wine tasting with a Widmere. | | | |
