| Thanks Chilly. I will read the link. I saw the previews when we were at the theater, and read about it in the Economist. It looked interesting. Out of curiousity, what did you have to pay for admission?

It was $12.50. Not bad for the knowledge received. I think they are going to release the movie and possibly the panel discussion at some point in the future, so you should be able to catch it at some point.

| Had insomnia last night and watched a film I've seen several times before: Moon Over Parador with Richard Dreyfuss, Raul Julia and Sonia Braga (1988). A really terrific and funny film about a US actor in a South American country who is asked to play the ruling Dictator. Raul Julia is so over the top as the head of the secret police, it's worth it just to see his performance. A real pity he died so young. And as much as I don't care for Dreyfuss, this is the best film I've ever seen him in. Highly recommend. | | | TN posted on Cellartracker"

I watched this last week also. I remembered liking it when I first saw it years ago, but enjoyed it even more now. Raul Julia was such a great actor...and Jonathan Winters was his usual funny self as the CIA agent.

No Reservations - on cable. My memory was that when this was released it was billed as a romantic comedy. It really isn't although it turns out with a happy ending. It's pretty much the same plot as Raising Helen (which also stars Abigail Breslin in both movies [talk about getting typecast when you're only 10 years old] with Catherine Zeta Jones (who looks great) playing an uptight chef who doesn't have a life outside of cooking. The film never gets any traction and seems emotionally flat. Great supporting cast with Bob Balaban and Patricia Clarkson.
I thought this was a remake of Mostly Martha, a German film.

I haven't seen Mostly Martha, but my understanding is that you are correct. Perhaps Raising Helen (which I have seen) also "borrowed" from Mostly Martha? I don't know which one came first. By same plot, I mean: the sibling sister adopting the orphaned child(ren) from the deceased sister and ending up with a boyfriend / husband creating the instant happily ever after family. | | | TN posted on Cellartracker"

As soon as it was over, we were watching the titles to see where it was shot (Kuai) and my wife turned to me and said, "I'd see that again." So, if we can find a cheap matinee, we'll definitely go. The trailers at the beginning were hilarious. We loved Jack Black as Eddie Murphy, Robert Downey as (I assume) Russell Crowe and Ben Stiller as Sylvester Stone / Bruce Willis. I don't know who the Tom Cruise character was, but my first guess was the producer Joel Silver. A really, really, funny film. | | | TN posted on Cellartracker"

| Burn After Reading - If you think this is a comedy, you're wrong. It isn't. It's not even a black comedy although it may suppose to be. There are no redeeming characters and everyone's moral compass is wrong or they are so self absorbed they don''t realize that they have lost their sense of morality.
My wife and I both disliked it and can't quite figure out why they even made it. Of course, I'm still scratching my head about the hoopla over No Country for Old Men. Another one of their films which I don't see the purpose. | | | TN posted on Cellartracker"

I agree - one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. My wife thinks it is an F- but I laugh every time John Goodman goes into his Nam rants. | | | I don't suffer from insanity. I enjoy every minute of it.

The Dark Knight - pretty good.
First movie we have been to since 2001 - we got a senior discount so it was only 7.50 instead of the regular 12.50 - I enjoyed it but Barbara di not care for the gore. It is a must see on the big screen.

| Burn After Reading...........saw it last Friday. I didn't dislike it as much as tanglenet...........I'd say a 7-8 out of 10 in my book.........although I have to admit, it wasn't their best effort................but compared to The Ladykillers, which I truly disliked, this was much better. Just as the commercials suggest, Brad Pitt and John Malkovitch were hilarious. Not so sure about the others..........however, Clooney's "machine" made me laugh.......a little bit too loudly for my wife's comfort!
Anyway, at least I didn't feel as though it was money wasted.
And tanglenet, I completely agree about No Country...........excluding Javier Bardem's performance, I just don't understand why it was so critically acclaimed................

| I'm glad I'm not the only one who didn't get "No Country." I'm a big Coen Bros. fan, but they sometimes just swing and miss. Bardem's performance was indeed worthy, and I always enjoy TL Jones, but the movie just left me scratching my head. I will still see "Burn After Reading," just now I might wait for it on DVD or Blu-Ray (ooh...speaking of which, THE GREATEST MOVIE EVER comes out on Blu-Ray today!) | | | Visit The Butcher Block at http://www.butcherblocktampa.com/ | |
