Back on subject here for a minute....

Went to an offline with the DAWGS last week attended by Mark Neal and Gove Celio. We drank the 02 Howel Mountain and 1540. THe 1540 definitely needs some time but the Howell Mtn was drinking great and Gove said it was the most apporachable of the 02's right now. It was decanted for maybe an hour before we drank it and it was delicious. If I was gonna open one now the Howell Mtn would be the one.

tj,

i doesn't matter if i have 5k bottles of wine i would never get a barcode scanner to track them. seems to take a bit of the fun out of it imo. barcodes take away from the experience and makes it seem to walmart or grocery store like. a bit to sterile for my tastes.

Dude, barcodes absolutely rock! I just recently did my first physical inventory in 2+ years, and thanks to barcoding (a) it went quickly and (b) there was not a single missing (cool!) or extra (darn!) bottle in my cellar. I was stunned actually.

First, regarding the svd's, I've had both the Wykoff and the Howell Mountain recently (with 4 hour and 12 hour decants, respectively) and they both were very, very good. The Howell had more tannin. Big, big wines.

Second, regarding the barcode labels in cellartracker, I think they are great. I don't have a scanner gizmo and probably won't anytime soon. I just type in the number (instead of scanning it) and the page just pops up to consume it, write a TN, etc. This is especially helpful keeping track of bottles that came from different places, such as off the mailing list plus a few more at retail or from a private individual. Since I labeled the bottle when I got it, I know where it came from.

Which SVD do you recommend popping the cork on at this point?
