| Growing up in Europe I have been drinking wine since childhood. I started to get serious only recently and I have been lurking on this, and other boards. I am adressing this board, because there seems to be more expertise and a genuine willingness to share knowledge with less experienced winos I am not that fond of Pinot Noir, but many members of this board consider it their favorite varietal. I have not tasted any of the great ones like Domaine Romanee Conti, but then again I am not willing to spend hundreds of dollars on a single bottle of wine. There must good bottles of Pinot for a lot less.
Here is the deal: I am willing to commit about $ 200.00 to get into Pinots. Pls give me yr suggestions how to spend this money, just indicate the approx. price per bottle adding up to a total of about $ 200.00. ( I hope you come up with more than one bottle for me!) I live in suburban L.A. and have access to many great wine shops and I can of course purchase over the internet. I'd prefer CA/OR/WA wines due to availability. Go ahead, fire away, make me a Pinot lover! Marco

| | You can get about 5 Martinelli PNs for $200. They'd be my choice. | | | |

| Landshark, where did you go to school? Me thinks you went over budget.

| | In all fairness rumpel, you need to try a decent burgundy to get the truest expression of Pinot. This is not a knock on U.S. Pinots, but they are certainly different. I'd suggest a mid level Patrice Rion or meo camuzet | | | |

| Rumpel, welcome to VC!
I have nothing more to add, since the other folks have already given you plenty of suggestions I might well have suggested too. I like jb's list. | | www.roguefood.com -- www.cellartracker.com

| | I just thought you could pick from the list with what was available in the area, narrowing it down to two hundred $. | | | |

| Gentlemen, Thanks a lot for the suggestions, that's exactly what I was looking for. Wrote it all down and I'll carry the note in my wallet. I'll start hunting this week and then call some friends for an evening of Pinot Noir tasting. Marco | | | |

| | My two cents for what they are worth. McMurray makes a very nice affordbale Pinot, around $10-12 per bottle depending where you can find it. I had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. McMurray the owner and winemaker and spoke with her about her approach to such a difficult grape. I drink mine slightly chiiled, around 62 degrees. | | | |

| Rumpel - Here's another suggestion if you can find it:
2000 Marimar Torres Pinot Noir $22
IWC (Steve Tanzer) rated this an 89. For us it was right between and 89-90 and was a fine match with food. Excellent pricing as well.

| | Just a nit here, The MacMurray's no longer own the vineyard/winery. It is owned by Gallo. Mrs. MacMurray was brought back to run it. This according to a feature article last year in the San Francisco Chronicle wine section. | | | |

| 2 cents -
Just had the 2001 Acacia Carneros Beckstoffer Las Amigas Pinot two nights ago - I was amazed how it evolved over the evening (just sitting in the glass). Very nice. I had it by the glass so dont know the $$ for a bottle.
