Decanted 30 minutes prior to dinner; A very dark Syrah-like purple.
Just after the decant this wine had a spicy nose of dark fruit, primarily blackberry, anise and a bit of oak. As with the previous versions it was very fruity and juicy in the middle with a well-defined structure. It is very similar to the 2000 in its flavor profile but potentially lacking in the velvety texture that the 2000 has. This should come with more bottle age as this wine is still an infant.
There are monster tannins in this wine that come across super dry on the finish. In fact a big swish in the mouth now gets you “tannic wine face” (reference to a beer commercial of “bitter beer face”). It stained our tongues and teeth purple but we liked every minute of it. It was a very good wine and probably worth the increase in price. Time will tell.
Don’t kill these too young. I am not planning to open another one of these for at least two years.

| The good news is that 13+ hours the wine is still really good. The tannins have subsided a bit and I can make out a few more flavors that were masked last night. In addition to blackberry there is some raspberry along with a slight herbal component.

At the time when Winetex posted, no ratings, but: RP 95+ / ST 94. Winetex paid $48, I see. I paid $38. :-)
I had the 00 last week & with 40 mins of air time, it was singing! Not the 01 though, the last few sips were best. This took a long time to "open up". There is no rush on this bottle, I won't open another for another 1-2 @ the least. I am not sure I see the ratings listed, but as most Num Toros, a great bottle of wine!

| It was very tannic. With the last glass it was starting to come around. But, most of it was pretty much gone. I won't touch for a couple more years.
