This wine is a smashing buy if you can get it for about $100. Very expensive but should be worth the $$$.

I think this is one of the best 96's I've had and certainly has the goods to last many many years. It is still really young and in need of at least two years before i would open another. Outstanding!!

I bought mine at Woodland Hills Wine Co for $99.99.

How is WineEx's storage? I wonder sometimes about the high volume retailers.

Never got cooked bottles from them. That said, Premier Cru has them on pre-arrival for $90 now.

These haven't been on the shelf more than two weeks. Store is always cool.

1996 Taittinger Champagne Brut Blanc de Blancs Comtes de Champagne - France, Champagne (8/17/2007)
WIMLNR,NOWA,WS93

Tasted August 17, 2007 at a SWILL offline. Opened and served immediately. Light yellow to yellow color in the glass, clear hue throughout with a fine mousse. Nose of bread, pear and yellow apple. Odd flavor on the palate that reminded me of “cork” along with some notes of bread, citrus and tangy apple. Vibrant acidity, medium to full body. Drink or hold. NOTE: I’m withholding a rating because of the odd “cork” flavor I got on the palate. Reminds me of a bottle this happened with Winetex once.

If you tasted "cork" it was probably corked. Yuk.

What group is SWILL?

It probably was but it was really weird.

I think SWILL stands for Southlake Wine Imbibers Late Lunch. On of the DAWGS tries to host a "late lunch" wine tasting once per month on a Friday. Leave work early and catch happy hour kind of thing.

Drinking well but still young. Now a rich sunshine yellow, fine mousse but not persistent, medium weight (read "elegant") and pristine nose of citrus and touch of freshly baked baguette, hints of vanilla, nuts, and caramel-like maturity are still a distant second from the clean chardonnay and citrus flavors. Not as heavy as the 90, but hoping it will pick up weight. Holding for another year or two at least.
