2002 Clos Severi Priorat - Spain, Catalunya, Priorat (3/3/2008)
WIML92,PURPLE92. Tasted March 3, 3008. Opened and served immediately. Purple to dark purple color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Rich and attractive nose of dark chocolate, plums and other dark fruits. Rich and juicy plums, berries and black raspberries on the palate. Medium to bright acidity, good tannins, medium to full body. Good balance. Lovely wine that keeps you reaching for the bottle. Based on the local COSTCO price of $21.99 this is a screaming good deal. Recommended. (92 pts.)

Glad to hear - I haven't tasted a lot of 2002 Priorats that I really enjoyed.

I doubt. I believe it was released a while back. I'm purely guessing that since this was one of those hard to believe COSTCO purchases it was probably a dump by the winery to COSTCO and recently showed up as a result.

FWIW - I was looking through CellarTracker and noticed that Texas Costcos have a much higher number of Priorat wines than the rest of the country. Kind of weird - searched on several different labels (Vall Llach, etc.) against where purchased and a high percentage were from Costco buyers in Texas. I recognize there could just be two or three power buyers, etc.

I guess that's possible. It seems like every time I'm in there they have at least one or two to select.

btw, I did go back after this tasting note and buy a full case at $21.99. This is my go to wine when I just need something to pop. I'll drink the entire case before the end of the year easily.
