I think I understand the implications, but can anyone provide specifics?  I've only seen the terms used for Aussie Shiraz.  Are there others?

Because they are not irrigated, vines have to search for water and push their roots deep into the ground. "Thus they will (hopefully) produce fruit of outstanding quality, with depth, colour and flavour not found in other, irrigated vines." Common practice in dry Australia.   Info found on several Aussie wine sites...

...and common practice almost worldwide; theory being same universally, the hard-working vine produces intensely flavored berries.
