A good wine but my notes suffer when I'm hosting the dinner party. 1982 Giacomo Borgogno & Figli Barolo Riserva - Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo (12/23/2006) Light clear garnet with some browning around the rim; Fine aged Barolo with a bit of funk to start out with. Medium-bodium and balanced. The tannins were soft and integrated (it looks like mileage may vary on this point according to the other TNs). This wine needed food to shine. (93 pts.) your bottle was more advanced than the one i had about a year ago. mine was still fairly tannic, no browning and still quite young, based on older versions i have tasted from the 40's and 50's. borgogno's seem to need about 30 years to show well. although a very good intro into an older barolo, they tend to be a big step down from the elite traditional producers. handling and storage is also a major factor with older borgogno barolo since they were very cheap wines when originally released.

1982 Giacomo Borgogno & Figli Barolo Riserva - Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo (3/24/2007) Another reconditioned bottle from the winery (and all that that entails...). It had a lovely floral nose and tobacco flavors with a long, aromatic finish. Definitely aged Barolo but presented much younger than expected for this vintage. If you are purchasing these - black foils mean reconditioned at the winery while red foils are the original bottles. (92 pts.) Posted from CellarTracker

We have now opened three bottles of this wine (all reconditioned). There has been wide bottle variation - the first seem actually aged, the second less so and last night's bottle was very young Barolo. The color was very dark which seemed atypical for a wine from this year. Buyer beware. I'm now fairly turned off by the reconditioned bottles. These were expensive and really not worth the $$$ other than maybe the first bottle. 1982 Giacomo Borgogno & Figli Barolo Riserva - Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo (4/22/2008) Dark ruby color with no sediment; Reconditioned bottle. This bottle seemed like 5-10 year-old rather than 25 year-old Barolo. Although the wine was good it did not seem to have much age on it. Also the color was very dark for an 82 Barolo - a deep ruby rather than garnet you might expect with some browning. There has been bottle variation over the three bottles we've opened.
