2000 Duckhorn Merlot Three Palms Vineyard Tasted March 8, 2005 at an offline so brief comments only. Opened and served immediately in Riedel Syrah glasses. Dark ruby to garnet in color, clear hue throughout. Nose and palate were a little tight at first tasting but started to show more about 30-45 minutes after opening on the revisit. Nose of dark fruits and chocolate. Flavors of black currants, plums, mocha and a little earthiness. Silky feel on the palate. Ready to drink now with minimal decanting or can be held for about four more years. Agreeable value.

2000 Duckhorn Vineyards Merlot Three Palms Vineyard - USA, California, Napa Valley (3/11/2008) WIML91+,PURPLE91 Tasted March 10, 2008. Opened and served immediately. Be sure and decant for sediment next time. Purple color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of briar patch up front followed my a little smoke, black berries and a hint of dark chocolate. Flavors of black berries, black raspberries, currants and plums. Medium acidity, resolved tannins, medium body. Well balanced, elegant in style. Drink over the short term, maybe medium term. One of the better California Merlots I've had in quite some time. Unfortunately my last bottle. (91 pts.)

IMO, 2000 was actually a better vintage for Duckhorn than 2001. Interesting note, thanks.
