Greetings:

Join us Wednesday, February 6th, from 4:30-7:30pm, when we welcome Ananda Neil of Eric Solomon Selections to our Wine Bar. The evening promises to be a guided tour of some of the more astonishing new wines of Spain. When we tasted a wide array of wines imported by Eric Solomon to choose those to be featured in this tasting we were absolutely bowled over. Rarely do we sit down to a consistently wonderful flight of wines. It made the decision very difficult, but these special wines demanded added attention for their unique level of quality and elegance. This may be the best line up of Spanish wines we have ever offered. None of these are household names and even the regions are not well known with the possible exception of Priorat, but these new wines set the bar at a whole new level when judging the quality being put in the bottle in Spain.

The range of flavors being offered is startling. At this tasting you will sample a Priorat from Eben Sadie, one of Spain's most honored young winemakers plus the debut vintage from Bodegas Victoria, a project of the owner of the legendary Finca Allende that sets a new standard for this region. These will be followed by a luscious blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, and Garnacha by Celler de Cervoles, a wild blend from the winemaker of Pingus at his new biodynamic project called Quinta Sardonia, and finally a dark, ripe Bobal-based blend from Mustiguillo, a rising star project of two famous winemakers. These cutting edge wines represent the new guard of modern wineries that are emerging in this tradition-laden country.

Help us welcome Ananda Neil to the Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant on this special evening as he shares his expertise. Any lover of the wines of Spain will not want to miss this opportunity to broaden their horizons and try something new and spectacular.

Greetings:

Join us Wednesday, February 20th, from 4:30-7:30pm, when we welcome Delia Viader, owner of Viader Winery to our Wine Bar. Delia was born in Argentina, spent much of her youth in Europe, then came to America to pursue her post graduate studies in college. After earning her PhD, she established her winery in 1986 on the steep, rocky slopes of Howell Mountain, 1200 feet above the valley floor. Her passion for wine began at an early age and she found herself admiring the old world style of wines from Bordeaux, particularly Chateau Cheval Blanc of St. Emilion. This wine inspired her first blend at Viader of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Cabernet Franc in 1989.

Delia decided to bring the Bordeaux style of winemaking and vineyard cultivation to the California hillside by planting the vines in rows going up and down the mountain, following the path of the afternoon sun down the side of Howell Mountain. This was accomplished despite strong resistance from regulators who feared erosion control problems. Delia persevered through all of the regulatory struggles and emerged triumphant, proving the wisdom of her philosophy which others have adopted. The success of her wines is proof positive that this vineyard practice was a prudent move. Her wines continue to garner critical acclaim, yet she is not resting on her laurels. She continues to expand production, introducing new wines to her stellar lineup, including wines highlighting Syrah, Petite Verdot, Tempranillo, and her darling Cabernet Franc. She has also transitioned her vineyard practices to explore organic and biodynamic techniques of grape growing. She has been joined in the vineyard and winery by her son, Alan.

Help us welcome Delia Viader to the Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant on this special evening as she guides us through a unique vertical tasting of her flagship wine that has made her winery one of the world's most respected producers. This should prove to be an enlightening evening of wine tasting with one of the great winemakers of Napa Valley.
