Popped and poured. Dark garnet. Initially, the nose was intense with prominent aromas of cedar, tobacco, and black fruits. Medium bodied, with less concentration than expected...flavors of plum, creme de cassis, and umami. Finishined with chewy tannins. After about 2 hours the aromas of cedar dissipated and what was left mirrored the palate plus black licorice and hints of vanilla bean. This wine actually seemed to put on weight after it sat and seemed more rustic. Decided to cork for day 2. Day 2: Poured the remainder of the bottle...except for aromas of spice, soy, and muted fruit, the nose seemed like it closed down. Palate was still full of the cassis and currant flavors but didn't improve and the rustic tannins were still very apparent. I question whether the tannins will melt away. A nice cab, not too complex...but definitely from Napa and true to the varietal. We'll see where this is sometime next year.
Not as good as the 2003.
Vine 89 Edit: Wow, can't seem to spell Sauvignon for the life of me...lol! Anyone know how to edit the subject line for spelling???
