If there is a TN for this already my apologies but I couldn't find it so here goes.

I had this last night at Mendocino Grill with pan braised rabitt and it was stellar. Garnet in color similar to the 2002, evasive nose bright red fruits jumping out of the glass, a bit of vanilla and some earthy qualities. After about an hour this really started to sing, with perfumed clover honey, lavendar and some leathery notes. Great wine 92 Pts.

I had this open for 2 hours before drinking.

It had nice earthtone aromatics. The first taste was of a mixture of red berry flavors with a lot of depth. It had a refined, elegant mouthfeel with great balance. I could not taste any alcohol on a smooth finish. When I chased a bite of my grilled-salmon, with this pinot, a surprising smoky flavor emerged.
The wine had great structure and was drinking very well last night.

Thanks for the positive note on the Kanzler. I would say definitely decant this 2-3 hours prior to drinking if you need to open it in the next couple of years. Or sit on it for another 3-5 and check it out then. Enjoy

Tony, I'm sure you're right about decanting but I had the 2003 Kanzler at a local restaurant (without decanting) and we couldn't believe how delicious and approchable it was. Hell, I thought it was more ready to drink than the last 2003 KB RRV I drank. No doubt it would have been even better if we had decanted. We followed the Kanzler with a 2002 KB Cohn--tight at first but opened-up and drank beautifully as well.

Both of these wines were on the list for $80 or $85 each--a pretty good deal, IMO. I'll be going back soon...

Of the '03 K-B vineyard designates, the Cohn seems to me most open for business. The Kanzler and Koplen are delicious as well but seem further away from their optimal drinking windows. Interesting to me b/c the Cohn seemed the least approachable from barrel.

My KB's are sleeping peacefully at 52 degrees to be consummed at the 5-10 yr mark. I prefer the 2002 Kanzler to the 2003 but they're both yummy. I really have the feeling these wines are going to age gracefully and improve. I admit they are hard to resist pounding them now!

I second your comments on the '02 Kanzler. Best wine yet from the K-B boys IMO. I have 1/2 case snoozing away and am quite happy about it.

It's my favorite KB alltimer too. But look out for the 2003 Four-Barrel. This is just an infant with enormous potential. It has closed up somewhat over the last several months and needs time (eg. 2007-2013). Patience will be rewarded IMO.

A good wine but probably approaching its "downslope".  It probably won't fall off a cliff but did not seem to have enough acidity to continue to hold.

Balanced and complex with raspberry and spice aromas and flavors. Maybe a bit more candied than I prefer but not overwhelming. No hint of heat on the finish. Velvet mouthfeel as all tannins and acid are completely integrated. Good wine. This wine might be on a downslope - it was our last bottle but if I had any more I would drink them short term. (91 pts.)

I actually found two different threads, wow.

Winetex, I only have 1 bottle remaining. You are recommending to drink now.

Yes, it is ready.  Why wait for it to do something weird?

$48, Mailing List.

Based on Winetex's recom I drank my last bottle. It was great! And, ready to go like Winetex posted. WS rated it 96 points. I would not go that far. But, it seems that we enjoyed it more than the Winetexs. Tonight, it was rocking to the tune of 93 points, awesome bottle of Pinot! Well done the KB crew!
