|  I've just finished upgrading the main "core" Vinocellar site, as well as the forums.  The entire update took about two hours to complete. Sorry for the inconvenience. You'll notice some obvious changes right away (such as the "garish red" as Dave calls it), and other site look and feel elements. - Buttons should be easier to see and read
- The "reply" editor is much more advanced (please try copy/paste Bob! Use the paste icon if necessary)
- The "Preview" button at the bottom of the reply window is new (and very cool if you ask me!)Â Just click the X in the upper right corner of the window to close it.
- Search is practically brand new. Use the "Search" link that you see next to "My Profile" on the Wine Forums page.Â
- In Search, click the little down arrow for options. Â
- While search is much FASTER and more powerful, there are still improvements that will be made. However, one major improvement is, upon searching for an item, clicking the link will take you directly to the post no matter what page it is on.ÂYou no longer have to scroll to find the post with your search term.
- I hope and pray that logins will be "sticky" and not kick anyone out. If it does, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I promise I will get to the bottom of this issue!!! It drives me nuts as well... believe me.
- There is an option to get a "daily digest" or a "weekly digest" of subscribed posts. Edit your FORUMS profile to choose which you would like. Currently, everyone is set to "instant" notificaiton, so once someone posts, they immediately get an email on their subscribed threads.
- I haven't configured it yet, but soon you'll be able to reply to subscribed emails to post in the forum without ever logging in. Stay tuned for this beauty!
- The "Read" and "Unread" folders are working now as well. They are no longer cookie based so they will work across computers as well.
- And finally.... ÂDISPLAY NAME IS WORKING!!!!   Your name is no longer a combination for "First Name" and "Last Name" so you can click on your current name in the very top right of the screen to edit your display name.
There are quite a few other enhancements... but I will detail them later. I will also be going through the Feedback Center to update everything...  Please keep logging issues there. It is such a tremendous help in keeping track of everything! All feedback... good, bad, or ugly... is certainly wanted. I'm hoping those "why I don't post as often on vinocellar" messages turn into "why I post more now on vinocellar"   But if this site isn't quite there yet, your feedback will help get it there! Thanks everyone! | | If you drink wine, you get smarter....

| One issue I've found so far... while the new post (read/unread post) FOLDER ICONS are working well, the LINK TEXT for the thread is all bold. Only threads with unread posts should be bold... posts you've already read should be normal text. I'm working to get this one fixed asap. I should've caught this one on my beta testing! *grumble* | | If you drink wine, you get smarter.... | |

This is now fixed.... if all links are still BOLD for someone, clear your browser cache (or refresh a few times) so the new stylesheet gets downloaded to your machine.

| | Another issue, the "quote" box doesn't show in the editor... I have a fix for this, but can't do it until I get home. |

Yea, no kidding. Thanks be to the search gods... search was useless previously. Made a HUGE improvement with this release, but I understand more cool improvements are to come for Search... including searching just the subject.

| As a further FYI - the search index is updated every hour.... so new items should appear in the search after an hour of being posted. | | If you drink wine, you get smarter.... | |

I think this is causing the new post indicator in each sub-forum to appear after the fact. For instance, I posted an update to the 2003 Novy Grenache and a little while afterwards when I came back to the site there was a new post indicator on the California Red section even though I'm the guy that posted the update and it indicated earlier I had read it (obviously).
Actually, not this specifically. My goof. | | Joe ----- Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone.

| | Thanks... yea, that's a bug I've already brought to the developers attention. Not related to the search indexing.... just an issue with the read/unread post logic for the folder icon. The thread itself seems to be correct (not bold after making a post yourself). | | If you drink wine, you get smarter.... | |
