Let me do some research through my Italian books but that sounds like a red wine from the Lazio region of Italy, obviously an IGT level wine. I believe Shiaffo is the producer. Not sure what's inside but in that region they typically grow and/or blend Cabernet Sauvignon, Franc, Merlot and Cinsault but they grow just about any red varietal as well such as Sangiovese, Syrah, etc...

Froim Gambero Rosso 2006:

"Colacicchi lies right in the heart of Anagni, the historic city of the papacy. It's leading wine, Torre Ercolana, comes from cabernet and merlot with a dusting of cesanese, and is classy and powerful. The efforts of the affable Trimani family with Schiaffo, from the same grape blend, have led to a fine 04. It's still a little closed on the nose, which more ripe red berry fruit than spices. The palate is slim but not evanescent, clean and of good character."

The 2004 earned a single glass rating. Maybe somebody has the 2005 version and can give you a better idea on the 2003 vintage.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the information WIML. A friend brought this wine back from Italy. I had it last night with dinner, it was light bodied with a smokey-earthy flavor profile. It would have gone great with BBQ pizza. I will have to start learning more about Italy and their wines.
