| Went to Sunset Corners in South Miami to pick up some wines we had ordered and lucky for me this Saturday's tasting was wines from Piedmont-My quick reaction to this tasting - I need to drink and acquire far more wines from Piedmont than I have.
I did not really take notes but thought I would post some quick thoughts:
2005 Poderi Colla Nebbiolo - this wine was very light in color and very floral on the nose. It looked like a pinot in the glass and possesed very nice fruit with some earthiness. A very nice wine for the price and this would be a fine wine to see on restaurant wine lists (in the unfortunate circumstance we went someplace without corkage)
2001 Ca Rome Da Pruve Langhe
2003 Bongiovanni Langhe Faletto - I did not really like either of the Langhes - they seemed disjointed to me (and I had a taste of the Barbaresco first accidentally which may have thrown me off)
2003 Ca Rome Barbaresco
2003 Ca Rome Barbareso Maria di Brun - Both Ca Rome Barbarescos were quite nice. The Maria was much more impressive on the nose although not much separated them on the palate for me.
2001 Ca Rome Barolo Vigna Cerretta - fantastic showing for this wine - Much more approachable than the 2003s -the 2 extra years have been good to this wine. Outshone the Poderi Colla by a long stretch. This was the number 3 wine of the tasting for me.
2003 Luigi Einaudi Barolo - young and very primary but has good stuffing and potential.
2003 Poedri Colla Barolo Bussia - harsh tannins and did not show well against the other barolos.
2003 Luigi Einaudi Barolo Costa Grimaldi - stunning - nose on this wine was fantastic - This had power, complexity and elegance - Beautiful wine - Had to get one (even though MLV told me not to buy anything) - after looking at the shelves I saw they also had the 01 that was actually a few dollars less so I grabbed one.
2003 Luigi Einaudi Barolo Nei Cannubi - excellent and a toss up with the Costa Grimaldi for wine of the tasting. Slighlty less refined and elegant that the Grimaldi. If pushed, I would say I preferred the Grimaldi
Great tasting - also a selection of cheeses from the region. | | | |

| | My pleasure - was a very good tasting. This shop has about the best free retail tastings in the area (area being used generously as it is at least 45 minutes from my house with 0 traffic) | | | |
