Color is a medium ruby, turning orange/brick to the edge, but still with plenty of color.  The nose immediately indicates the wine is not only still alive, but ready to please, with notes of roses, earth, light notes of raspberry & strawberry, a little tar, and just the slightest note of mint which adds a somewhat unexpected and very interesting twist to everything.  On the palate I am struck by the wonderful core of sweetness framed by a soft but still notible tannic frame.  Plenty of acidity keeps things going, and the wine finishes clean & sweet, with lovely earthy undertones.  Certainly performed above my expectations, a delightful wine - 91 points.
