2001 Ramos-Pinto Douro Duas Quintas - Portugal, Douro (7/8/2006)
WIML87-88,PURPLE88,NOWA,WS87

Tasted July 8, 2006 at home during the first half of the Portugal and Germany World Cup Consolation match. 13% alcohol. Opened and served immediately in a Spiegalau Authentis Rot Wein glass. Dark garnet color in the glass, fairly clear hue throughout. Nose of blackberries, camphor, red currant, maybe a smidge of blueberry. Later a little leather, pepper, spice and a floral component. Flavors of black licorice, kirsch, red cherries and some earthiness. Later some burnt sugar. Medium tannins, light to medium acidity. Light to medium bodied. Certainly not a complex wine on the nose and palate but definitely quite quaffable. Drink now. Based on the local retail price of $9.99 per bottle I paid (a bad price at that) I'd still say the value here is between acceptable and recommended. (87 pts.)
