What is the correct pronounciation of "Togni"?

Having never met the gentleman I don't know for sure how he pronounces his name. I've always said pretty much "Tony" or "Tonyee".
I also hear it said phonetically "Tog (like Hog) knee"

What is correct?

Philip is from the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland and pronounces his name "tawn-yee". FWIW, according to Philip this is also the correct pronunciation of the GN in gnocchi, ie, "nyau-kee"...

Mark, that is what it sounds like when he calls me. The first time I couldn't tell who was on the phone.

That is "tawn" like... the sun comes up at "dawn"?

And "hear yee, hear yee"?

I'm not able to say it now, but hope to be able to within 5 - 7 years.

In this context, what's the correct pronunciation of 'Yacht'?

5 - 7 years is not long enough. I just did a 15 year one and it was just able to spit it out.

David:

Ton-yee or tawn-yee. Definitely not Hog-knee. He said he grew up in England, but his wife Birgitta (burr-gita, definitely not bird-foot) was maybe from somewhere else in Europe (and his father was Italian speaking Swiss). He made wine in Bordeaux (Lascombes) before coming to California. His wines from the 60's and 70's at Mayacamus and Chapellet still drink great today, as do all of his own wines. A very interesting visit (I am stopping by Saturday to pick up wine).

I'm still waiting for the 70 Mayacamas to open up. I don't think I'll live that long. The 69 Chappellet is a classic though.
