| Well, the Brunello dinner has come and gone and all I can say is WOW! Amazing food, amazing wine and just an all around great evening.
I had the pleasure of sitting with the Vice President of Halpern Enterprises, Mr. Colin Halpern and the Managing Director of Fuligni, Mr. Roberto Guerrini-Fuligni. Roberto is a very nice gentleman and demonstrates a real passion for food and wine. Apparently he's a university professor too!
Here's a list of the courses and wine pairing:
-------------
Selection of Hors d'Oeuvres
NV Gosset Excellence CHampagne Brut
Fruitwood Grilled Quail with Smoked Pancetta and Roasted Fingerling Potato Salad with Micro Greens, Port Wine Glaze
1997 Constanti Brunello di Montalcino Riserva
Herb Crusted Lamb Loin, Tuscan Carrot and Celeriac Puree with Cloudberry Jus
1997 Poggio Antico Brunello di Montalcino Riserva
Duck Confit and Roasted Butternut Squash Risotto with Shaved Pecorino and Porcini Sauce
1997 Antinori Pian delle Vigne Brunello di Montalcino
1998 Antinori Pian delle Vigne Brunello di Montalcino
Venison Chop, Lavender and Quebec Foie Gras Jus with a Ragout of Spring Vegetables
1997 Fuligni Brunello di Montalcino Riserva
International Cheese Plate, Fresh and Dried Fruits and Nuts, Honey Drizzle
Biscotti and Truffles, Coffee, Tea, Espresso, Cappucino
-----------
Wow. Wow, wow, wow. My personal preference for the Brunello poured were as follows:
Fuligni
Pian delle Vigne (1998)
Pian delle Vigne (1997)
Poggio Antico
Constanti
I'll post notes in the TNs forum when I get a second. I understand I was sitting at the Fuligni table, but that didn't influence my thoughts on the wine. It was simply amazing. Even though it's a very young wine, it's easily the best wine I've ever had. I can see the potential to age beautifully. I can't wait to try my first bottle in about 5-7 years (maybe 7-10 ). It deserves every one of the 97 points Mr. Suckling gave it in the May 31st issue of WS. For anyone interested, I picked up three of the Fuligni Riserva and three of the '98 Pian delle Vigne.
Oh, and a congratulations and best of luck to Mr. Montefiore and family. Alberto and his wife Paola are expecting their second child towards the end of June! | | | |

| Very jealous, futronic. Great write-up and tasting notes.
Did Mr. Guerrini-Fuligni mention anything about his 1998 Fuligni BdM? I have a bottle in my cellar.
Thanks,
Otis

| | Sounds wonderful, futronic. That risotto is making me hungry and it's only 845am. <<<growl>>> | | www.roguefood.com -- www.cellartracker.com | |

| The night was definitely memorable. It was my pleasure to "take one for the team" and subject myself to eating and drinking such fine stuff.
otis,
As I mentioned to VM on the WS forums, Mr. Guerrini-Fuligni mentioned that he would drink his wine in the following order: '94, '90, '96, '93, '95, '98, and '97. The '94 is apparently drinking extremely well at the moment.
Based on that advice, hold for 3-5 years or decant it for a really long time. If you don't mind my asking, what did you pay for the '98?
TJ,
I was typing up the menu and I was making myself hungry, so I know how you feel. Maybe there should be rules that only certain forums can be read before lunch? | | | |

| futronic,
Thanks very much for your input. My bottle cost me nothing. It was a gift.
Cheers,
Otis
