| I've been thinking about investing in a storage unit but I'm not sure what size to shoot for. I found a 45 bottle holder at $200 and wanted to get some opinions.
Heres the story:
I purchase wine once a month and usually pick up around 6 bottles. I allocate a set amount of money each month just for wine and never excced that number. I buy wine that I can enjoy immedately and also cellar.
Idealy, I would like to wait until after grad school (year and a half ) to invest in a larger unit (like the Vintage Keeper 100 plus) so I can use the extra income to pay off loans and such.
So, would it be pointless to spend the $200 now to keep a my againg wines safe for the time being? Or should I just wait and make the larger purchase after school? | | | |

| 18 months to go? How many do you typically buy to cellar each month?
Typically, in the North side of a basement, on the floor, it should be cool enough to cellar your wine. Parents house? Friends house you REALLY TRUST? :-) Also, if you have space, an old fridge can provide the space you need (maybe for free if someone is upgrading?) I know some on VC have gone that route.
However, if those options aren't available.... $200 could potentially give you the security of mind that your hard earned wines will be properly cared for.
I believe Costco has some units for cheap (or they rotate them in every now and then). | |

| | aes... My first cooling unit was a 50 bottle unit that we got as a wedding present. A year later, we bought a 900 bottle wine room. The 50 bottle unit is where I keep my 'near term' drinkers. I think that, if you purchase thw $200 unit, you'll find use for it later on, even if you purchase a larger one. It worked for us. | | | |

| I dont really buy "expensive" wines but some I would like to hold for a couple years. ie the 04 Bellas Garden
I wish I did have a basement because that would be a great solution. I think I will end up purchasing a unit soon just to be on the safe side. Then, when the time comes to upgrade, use the old unit for 'near term drinkers' like Budman does.

| we also bought 2 cheap units (around $150 each) at Home Depot that hold about 40-45 bottles each, then a year later we bought the Eurocave 520. We ended up giving 1 of the small units to my parents and keep the other one in the garage - also for near term drinkers. This has also allowed us to move stuff out of the Eurocave, so we don't forget that it's there to drink soon - and make room for new purchases.
Just remember - whatever unit you choose, you will most certainly fill it up quicker than you imagined! | | | |
