I was looking up prices on Donnhoffs and I noticed that sometimes I see Norheimer Dellchen Spatlese #11 and sometimes it is just Norheimer Dellchen Spatlese.

Is there a difference between the two? What does the 11 signify?

Thanks!

The #11 is part of the A.P. number which is either the fuder or lot number of that bottling. The wines are the same vintage, vineyard etc but as they are bottled in lots the wines have slight distinctions that by listing the AP # in reviews allow you to diifferentiate.

Note: All German "Quality wines" (instead of table wines) have an AP number. Some retailers list the number, others do not.

The AP#11 is the lot that came ot the USA through the authorized importer. There is also an AP#16 which was not imported but might get grey marketed.

In the case of Donnhoff it's right on the front of the label. Usually in the small print right above Product of Germany.

So I see A.P. Nr. 77530101105 on the label. Does that mean this is a number 11?

Thanks for all the help with this....

Yep. That's AP#11. The last two digits (after the 11) are the year the wine was registered with the authorities. Usually it's the year after the vintage, but sometimes when producers hold back wine it can be several years after. Prum does that a lot.

Oh yeah...as far as the law goes, all the 11 signifies is that it was the eleventh wine that Donnhoff registered in 2005.

RF, That is good information. What do the other digits signify?
