'06 Le Cadeau is out, rather sooner than I'd expected.   There's not a ton of info -- references to the good growing season in the Willamette Valley, '05 WA scores, and a mention that this is Josh Bergstrom's last vintage as a consulting winemaker (taking his place is Steve Ryan of Mendocino Farms Winery, formerly of Martinelli).Â

Wines are still $47 with discounts of 5%, 15%, and 20% respectively for 6, 12, or 18 bottles.  Ground shipping is $3-6 bottle depending on quantity.   No shipping to most of the difficult states.Â

There are no tasting notes and the website hasn't been updated, apparently, since before the last offer.  That probably won't keep me from getting the 20% discount.  I like this wine and all indications are it's an excellent vintage across the board.

I'm in for at least 1 case. This is a flat out no brainer for me.

We got the offer in the mail today also.  I'm thinking of cutting back to only two cases this year.  That will be the bare minimum that we order, and we'll work our way up from there.

Cheers, y'all

If anyone wants to bump up their discount, I am interested in up to 6 bottles and would welcome the opportunity to piggyback on your offering.

EDIT TO ADD:  Taken care of by a generous board member. Thanks.

Dear Shannon Perdue,

That first call from Tom Mortimer's Le Cadeau really was a gift. When Tom contacted us in 2005, inviting us to visit his 10-acre parcel on Parrett Mountain in Oregon's Willamette, we checked him out with our Northwest vintner friends. Everything was thumbs up so we scheduled a trip to Le Cadeau on our next Oregon trek. Once there, we were blown away by the spot, the rocky parcel, the richness, and beautiful balance of these great Pinot Noirs. This is our third offering from Le Cadeau. The 2004 and 2005 Pinot Noirs were some of the fastest selling wines in the history of WineAccess Direct. Tom has set aside 200 3-packs of three single parcel Pinots for WineAccess Direct customers from 2006 -- perhaps the greatest vintage in Oregon winemaking history. Free shipping on all orders!

Le Cadeau VineyardWhy We Chose Them
Pinot Noir has undoubtedly become the marketplace's hottest variety. But, of the new Pinots appearing every day, some might seem like overpriced attempts to cash in on a certain, funny movie. The world's most aromatic red grape is certainly capricious, requiring special spots, rigorous farming, and visionary winemaking to achieve greatness. So in the New World, no region is more exciting than Oregon's northern Willamette Valley where dozens of tiny, Burgundy-sized estates are producing stellar Pinot Noir. With the release of wines from the 'near perfect' 2006 vintage, top small wineries are now releasing some of the best Oregon Pinots ever made.

Tom Mortimer first contacted us in 2005 and talked about his 10-acre parcel on Parrett Mountain, asking us to consider his wines for WineAccess. After digging around with other Oregonian winemaker friends, we learned that Mortimer was quite the topic of vintner conversation. His 10-acre parcel was packed with basalt rock. It had taken two years, some big John Deere's and a bunch of broken shovels to plant the vineyard. Great Pinot Noir is about special spots and at least a little bit of madness. Le Cadeau seemed to have all the right ingredients. We were intrigued, so we decided to go visit.

A few hundred yards after turning into Le Cadeau, we saw the rocks and understood what all the hubbub was about. The Mortimers chose the Le Cadeau parcel because the bedrock essentially sits on the surface; thus, from the time they were planted, their vines have lived in the bedrock. The result is small fruit clusters, concentrated berries, naturally occurring low yields, explaining the tremendous concentration and sophistication of these delicious Pinots. Mortimer, forever experimenting, then went one further. He invited three brilliant winemakers to each craft one wine from a hand-selected parcel of Le Cadeau. The results have been marvelous, expressing not only Le Cadeau Vineyard's unique terroir, but also the singular stylistic expression of the vineyard as shaped by each vintner.

We were lucky to have made that trip. Le Cadeau has been garnering 90+ scores ever since, with almost all wines being directed to a small mailing list clientele. This offer, our third from Le Cadeau, is the first made anywhere in the world on these delicious, deeply colored, plush 2006s, Tom has set aside 200 3-packs of these luscious Pinot Noirs for our customers. Free shipping on all orders!

Côte Est

Tasting Notes from the WineAccess Travel Log
2006 Le Cadeau Pinot Noir "Côte Est"
"Côte Est" is produced from Dijon clone 667, 115, and 114 fruit grown on the east side of Le Cadeau vineyard. Deep purple/ruby color. Beautiful, deep cherry and blackberry aromas. Rich, concentrated and highly structured, with flavors of blackberries, black cherries. The most structured of the three wines, true to the style of winemaker Josh Bergstrom.

Rocheux

2006 Le Cadeau Pinot Noir "Diversité"
"Diversité" represents a mixture of fruit from all seven Pinot Noir clones throughout the vineyard. Deep ruby color. Lush, sweet currant aromas; opulent nose. Rich, textured flavors of ripe blue and red fruits, spiciness. Long finish with ripe tannins. The most forward of the three cuvees, true to form for winemakers Cheryl and Sam Francis-Tannahill.

Diversité

2006 Le Cadeau Pinot Noir "Rocheux"
"Rocheux" fruit is a blend of Pommard and Dijon-777 grown in the rocky west-side of Le Cadeau Vineyard. The '06 Rocheux is deep ruby in color. Classical complex Burgundian nose of dried red cherry, and red fruit. Beautiful red fruit flavors with sneaky power. 15% whole cluster fermentation seems to have heightened the aromatic profile. Not surprisingly, the "Rocheux" consultants were Harry Pedersen-Nedry and Mike Eyres, one of Oregon's most renown Burgundian-style winemaking teams.
