| My understanding is there is no question too stupid to ask in this thread so I am going for it:
I have read about KC vineyard in here but not any specific varietal. Today in a store I saw the label on a KC cab that said, predominately , across the top of the lable, "UnOaked" I began to wonder.
What the heck did that mean?
I know that most wines are supposidly (davidn...it is that bad speeling that goes alonsyeside mensa iq's )better with age and oak barrels in the equation, so why would KC vineyards advertise that hers/his were not? (thanks ojeff)
Which component adds to the advertising advantage? OR do some labels go for the masses instead of the product? Wait. I know the answer to that. Before coming in here, my last wine was swizzle with a contest for a wet t-shirt event on the back side of the label
I am sure it comes down to which wine any certain person's hands start shaking when they open the bottle, sniff; swirl and sip. Seanr...unless chards are red, I could swear it was a cab. I'll double check. But my bet would be that you are correct and I was in a hurry. My confusion was concerning the "Unoaked" on the label.

The wine in question is undoubtedely a Chardonnay, No?
99% (well 97.4%) of Chardonnaies in the world are aged in oak. Some crazies out there swear that Chards aged in oak are bad and prefer to have the wine aged in stainless steel so that it shows more of the charakter of the grape and not the oak .
Different winemakers use different amounts of "oak" by blending the different barrells of the wine. A "new" barrel imparts more oak into the mix than does a two year old barrel. A three year old barrel pretty much has no oaking effect of the juice. So if a wine says on the label "50% new oak" it means that half the blend was in a new oak barrel and half came out of older barrels or stainless steel.
LikeIsaid... There are very very few wines out there with no oak at all. The most popular one is from Melville Vineyards down in the Santa Rita Hills. Their name for the stuff is "Inox". Personally I don't like it that way. I like to have a little woody in the wine.

Normally I would show them to you except that after eleventy-two-four Swizzles I forgot who took the pictures. In fact, I forgot who I was.

No way!
It was more than that. Actually the first Sony BetaMax came out in 1976 and sold for $1300. The first BetaMax to break the $1000 mark was in 1977; it was a Sanyo. The only problem with the Sanyo is that, like we experience with Screagle, one couldn't get them.
The $1300 BetaMax didn't have a clock or timer. The big deal when VHS came out was it had a clock and programmable time built in; a revolutionary feature. | | | |

Probably about $400-$500 bucks.
Today a VCR (if you can find one at a dealer for sale) sell for $50-$70 bucks.
A decent CD/DVD player today is $70-$90 bucks.
A DVDR is a couple of hundred.
The Tivo is hot at around $100 ($1000 for HD) plus $50-$100 a month. | | | |
