I know this subject was touched on slightly in the "How do you carry your wine bottle to the restaurant" thread, but what do you use?

I'm thinking about buying one, but I'm not sure what's good and what's junk.

I use the Reidel carrying case. It has worked great for almost 2 years and it gets a lot of use.

Actually Bud, I was hoping to get a new one before the 23rd! The one that I have been using for the last 10 years is shot and it's time!

Riedel.

It has velcro dividers so you can take out or adjust the partitions. I use one for glasses and one for decanters.

I just got one from Amazon. $52.99 with free shipping. They have a deal in Housewares -- if you spend $125, you get $25 off.

I am sure it is an isolated case but:

I purchased one of these cases from Amazon, it arrived with a strange smell/funk whatever you want to call it. This has never gone away, and if I put glasses in the case for more than 5 minutes they have the smell as well.

Can these cases be washed? Do the inserts have cardboard in the middle or?

I have a 6 bottle carry case with velcro inserts that adjust. I'll mix glasses and bottles in there accordingly. It's funny going to restaurants with ronmc2 as he carries his glasses in the original box they came in (sometimes 2 of these boxes).

OK. I bought one of these Riedel Stem Carrying case and became offical wine geek!

My question is....how many stem can you put in these? I tried last night and there is no way I can put 4 Extreme so I tried Vinum but I was afraid to put 4 in....

Actually a lot of people do this, foremost among them is Brian Loring who generally travels with about 3 dozen Riedel Burg glasses crammed into his SLK

ricky, I got my case from IWA. It came with an extra divider. After removing it, I can take 4 Riedel Soms, but I stagger them, facing them in different direction to the next, and placing each one at then end near the base to leave as much room as possible for the bowls. I've never had one break...yet.

so you do put one divider between each stem and still fit 4? I guess I got to try it again tonight.

Thanks!

Yeah, I get four in there although we have different cases. Mine doesn't say "Riedel" on it. It's in the IWA catalog.

There is no way you can get four Bordeaux or Burgundy stems in the Riedel case. If you're going out to dinner with more than three people you need a second case. I keep two cases ready to go; one with three Burgundy and two Champagne in it and the other with two Burgundy glasses and a decanter.

If you are taking glasses to a tasting I am starting to think that the best way is to take smaller bowl glasses like an SB stem (or even a port). With the small portions we get to taste at a tasting the wine sometimes gets lost in the bottom of a large bowl. Everyone gives me crazy looks like what are you doing with such small ones. IMO this is a case where size doesn't matter... or maybe it does.

I think we're talking about different cases, david. Anyone who was at the East Coast VC anniversary dinner and afterparty knows I had four Soms in my case, but mine doesn't say Riedel on it. Anthony's says Riedel and his is a little smaller than mine.

I understand that BoardO. Most cases I've seen are Riedel though.

I'd sure like to have a couple like yours. Do you know where one can purchase them?
