Since you live in the bay area you may want to check out the Family Winemakers Tasting on Nov. 7th
www.familywinemakers.org
You can taste lots of small wineries and decide for yourself who is upcoming or not
I also agree that this board and ebob are great sources. 1) Word of mouth. 2) Taste the wine yourself and see if you like it 3) Sign up on the mailing list before the rest of the wino world makes your same discovery! | | | |

| | another way is find yourself a very good wine merchant and give them as much of you business as possible. try not to kill them on pricing issues if they are fair and they will take care of you. people reward great customers even if they don't spend tons of money, it is loyalty and trust that counts. | | | |

| Of course this site is the greatest way to find new labels.
I also love going to tastings and wine events. Tricia and I just got back from a four-day event in Guernville (Pinot On The River) and we found several new Pinots that are better than fantastic. Small "garagists" that are so passionate it is hard to believe how much work they put in to their wines. Some oldies but goodies that I have stopped buying are making big-time comebacks also. I'll be listing some of these later in the week (after I get all my orders in )
The two dinners in the Napa Valley after the VC Anniversary weekend also was a wonderful opportunities. There were two or three labels that I will sign up for. Only problem is deciding who to drop. | | | |

| Agreed all around here. We went to the Mt. Veeder autumn tasting, since Kimberly wasn't drinking, and she loves the ambiance of Hess. We hooked up with peter Franus for a few obscure tastings there. Also, Bill & Susan Hawley of Random Ridge, where we met Bill the next day on some back road for a nice discounted sale on a mixed case.
Also hooked up with Frank Dotzler from Outpost through Bob Bressler this past trip.
All in all, I think V-C has been a spectatcular venue to hear about new wine, and not just hype, either. You are bound to hear tasting notes and background on wines and vintners here that really help to purchase wisely. | | | |
