| | First he sells out his winery, Merus. Next, he is out at Buccella, replaced by Celia. Now he is out at Harris, replaced by Thomas Brown. Not that these moves are downgrades, mind you. But not too long ago, Mark Herold was a rising star in Napa and was at the helm of many 95 pt wines. Has he moved on to other projects that I haven't heard about and should investigate, or is he simply out of favor with winery owners? Anybody know? | | Beta testing a new signature. | |

| I believe I had heard (maybe even here?) that the demise of Merus had more to with personal reasons than anything else......as for the other projects......?
One thing is for sure - TB is hot right now!

| | TB and Celia are hot right now. Red hot. I never bought Herold's other projects (word to the wise, be sure never to use his first name), but I think that his Merus wines were surprisingly good. That is one drop that I might regret. | | | |

| Don't know any of that (personal stuff). But, re Merus, I loved the wine. But, he over priced it big time after the 01 release. I dropped. Ditto, the Harris wines. I had the pleasure of meeting them a couple of times, but the wines in all honesty were over priced.
Re, Thomas: Met him a couple of times also. Buy most of the wines he makes. As long as the wine is worth the price of admission (for my taste), I will buy it makes no difference to me if Thomas makes it or Mark Herold. Fact is or was that most the wines he was making, in my opinion were not worth the price.

| | Makes sense. But you would have thought that he would have anticipated that before inking the sale of Merus. | | Beta testing a new signature. | |

Hi naive but genuine question... what does this mean? Sorry for asking but I sense this is one of these moments where I can learn something new about wine production. TIA!

| | Bob's suggesting that he's dropping his role as winemaker for other labels because he doesn't have production facilities any more to make those wines, so they need to go somewhere (to a suitable winemaker) who does. | | | |

Agreed. Seems like there may be more to this story.....but either way, something tells me he'll rebound nicely.
And who does he still make wine for or consult with? I know he's still at Kamen in Sonoma.....(I think)

Ah, thank you.
