| SENDING OFF THE IN-LAWS - Seattle, WA, USA (9/17/2004)
After a 3 month stay in Seattle, tomorrow my wife's Mom and her partner Bob hit the road to head back to Tampa. It was wonderful having them out for the summer, both for them and for your 2-year old son Sid. To send them off in style, we had one last meal at Lampreia. (I am a broken record when it comes to picking restaurants in Seattle, but why would I eat anywhere else???)
- I started with the Seared Hamachi Filet which is really more about the dozen or so little treats that Scott lays atop the perfectly seared fish: quail egg, melon, a little mozzarella, candied orange, rocket, carrot powder, radish, fresh anchovy, crouton, a little spicy red pepper, I am forgetting half of the delicious nibbles
- Next I had the Poached Egg Palio Style: a poached duck egg that is heavily infused with black truffle, nestled atop a spinach and parmesan crisp. The yolk on the duck egg is beyond rich, just a pleasure to clean off the plate. The truffles steal the plate.
- The Roasted Lamb Loin with Sweet Pepper Crust and Mediterranean accompaniments is always a delight. It is less work that the normal lamb rack and a bit leaner, just a hint less flavor. Still, with a 1990 Lynch Bages there was just nothing to complain about!
- The cheese tray, back after a summer hiatus, featured a large assortment of Italian cheeses, mostly harder and Sheep based. We picked 4 of the 8 and absolutely loved them with the remaining few glasses of Lynch.
- After much deliberation, we chose to skip dessert.
As always, a simply impeccable meal!
- 2002 J. J. Christoffel Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Auslese - Middle Mosel, Mosel Saar Ruwer, Germany
Purchased off the list for $55. AP# 2 602 041 008 03. Peach, mineral drenched, ever so slightly smoky, moving to flint. The palate is soft, exploding with sweet fruit and hints of green apple with glorious, vibrant mouthfeel. The mineral takes over on the medium finish. This is hardly a blockbuster, but it has impeccable balance with no faults to be found. Very enjoyable. (90 pts.)
- 1990 Château Lynch-Bages - Pauillac, Medoc, Bordeaux, France
The nose starts with charcoal and sweet, almost caramel infused fruit. With air the tobacco starts to come out and then black cherry. At first, the palate was black and medicinal, bruising, an absolute kick in the teeth, slightly astringent, just drenched with salty minerals. However, with 3 hours of air this became sweeter and much more giving. Eventually this had a total reversal, showing an amazingly plush texture with not a hard edge to be found, screaming of tobacco and sweet fruit, drenched in mineral. With roasted lamb-loin and then some harder cheese this was a heavenly match! (94 pts.)

| Eric - where is Lampreia? Sounds good.
The egg dish sounds like something I ate in Piedmont, Italy. It was lick the plate good.

Lampreia is on 1st and Bell or maybe 1 block south in Belltown. It is right over the Aurora tunnel. The restaurant is Northern Italian in tradition, so it doesn't surprise me that you had something like that in Piedmont. Scott chefed in that region for a few years.
