The Rocket Scientist and I disagree on this one. I'm definitely for Sammy because he's just a way better musician. He gives the band a dimension it doesn't have with Diamond Dave...and I think he's just a better vocalist. Her point is that Dave is a WAY better showman and thus improves the band. What do you think?

While I wanted to vote "They both suck", I just couldn't. IMO, the band was never the same (or even very good) with the "Red Rocker"! While Sammy may scream "I can't drive 55". . . I can't listen anymore!

Please, David Lee Roth helps define Van Halen. Anything else is an imitation.

I had to vote for Dave.

It's like Old Coke vs. New Coke.

Sorry Juggernt, this one is a no brainer. I mean, Barbra Streisand is a better vocalist than Roth, but no one wants to see her fronting Van Halen.

David Lee Roth may not get along with his former bandmates and vice versa, but they were what they were. Hagar never quite measured up IMO

Well jugger, I don't know if you and the Rocket Scientist had anything riding on this, but it's not looking good for you my friend. Last time I checked, Shammy only had one vote and I think we all know who that was!

Had to vote for Dave. When I think of Van Halen - I still picture Dave as the front man.

This is kind of like the question about who is your favorite James Bond. People usually pick the Bond they saw first. The older you are, the more likely you are to pick Sean Connery as your favorite Bond. So, using that theory, perhaps the fact that most of us picked David Lee Roth just means we're old.

Voted for Dave for 1 big reason.Eddie!
Listen to Eddie's guitar playing with Dave and then listen to it with Sammy, to me not even close. I then must vote for Dave! I like the Dave era songs alot better as well! Funny thing is, Van Halen has sold like 5 times as many sammy cds? Go figure?

Actually, I haven't even voted, so it's not me that's given Sammy his single vote.

My very first real concert was Van Halen when DLR (grrrowl ) was heading them up. I went with my best friend Beverly (a 6' tall redhead). I couldn't drive without an adult in the car and she had her license so we went to downtown Houston in her old Ford Fairlane. No a/c but it was fast.

We sat literally in the very last row way up in the nosebleed section. I never had such a good time. I had to lie to my mom to go. We were in HEAVEN and it was so ILLEGAL!

Now why don't you guess who I voted for?

David Lee Roth is a god!

Maybe it's an age thing but I hate Van Halen no matter who is singing.

I can't stand to listen the Sammy-era Van Halen. Eddie and Alex were the musical fundamental brains, they needed David Lee to give them the extra brash touch and bad boy swagger.

Cheers, y'all

Another female perspective - I saw Van Halen in So Cal when they were nuddin in my mispent youth. For a long time I had a poster of DLRoth in mid-air splits in my room (VH2). Grrr. 'Nuff said.

While Sammy doesn't suck he's not the man.

Can't choose, it's Eddie Van Halen that makes the difference.
