Is it a french forified wine? A port? Does it age well? Is it aged in the bottle or just befor it is to be distributed?

Banyuls is a French Vin Doux Naturel, a fortified sweet wine made from Grenache. It does age well, and make a perfect match with chocolate.

These can be very grapey, almost port like, with tobacco like overtones [based from the 4 or 5 I have had]

I have enjoyed ...
Domaine du clos Paulilles [cap bear and rimage]
Domiane du mas blanc
Domaine Tour Vielle

A good bottle of Banyuls will have deeper darker fruits (than Port) and some sweet chocolate. Typically it will have 17 to 18% alcohol. They call it a "dessert wine" on the label .

Like Yquem is to all other Sauternes the best Banyuls made is
Domaine du mas Blanc, cuvee "La Coume". S.C.A. Docteur Parce.

The Dr. Parce reaches maturity between 20 and 30 years after picking.

Banyuls is located in southern France on the Mediteranean very near the border of Spain. The vineyards are at the base of the Pyrenees mountains where it meets the sea.

It's good stuff!
