One could say the Pur Sang is expensive for a Sauvignon Blanc, but all in all it's not what I would call "very expensive". It should sell for about $40-50/bottle(?).
Dagueneau makes one of the best SB in the world, so you should try it if you like this variety.

| | Didier Dagueneau is an iconoclast who makes some of the most compelling SB's on the planet. If you're going to spend the money, go for the `02. Best vintage there since `96. The `96 Pur Sang is still drinking well. The `02 will set you back around $55 give or take a little. There's a lower priced one called En Chailloux, but I don't think it offers the experience of the Pur Sang I never buy any. There's a higher priced one called Silex that will cost closer to $70 for the `02. It's really kind of a different animal. Earthier, less SB like...sort of a curl up by the fire wine, but awesome in it's own right. If you hit the lottery he makes one called "Asteriode" in a 500ml bottle with a whimsical label. My local wine shop had two bottles that retailed for $275 about 4 years ago. I haven't even seen one since. Fewer than 100 bottles make it to the US. Given the rarity, it would probably get a SQN type retail markup. ($400?). Didier himself said he doesn't care if no one buys it...that just leaves more for him. | | | |

| | Yes indeed. They need a few years of age to really show their stuff. The 2000s are just now becoming ready to drink. I have both the Pur Sangs and Silexs. If you are wondering they don't taste like any Sauv Blanc you've ever had. Mr. Winetex usually won't touch Sauvs but he likes the Dagueneau wines. | | | |
